Some armed with baseball bats and fire hoses and other objects.
I'm pretty sure he can handle at least one more.

(16,811 posts)and perhaps a ray of hope (just thought of this)
as truly awful as the nation was that produced the civil right moment was.
it did produce a generation of great black leadership from mlk on down.
perhaps trump and his swamp thing bros will instill a new generation of dem leadership.
the downside being how many of us will have to endure prisons and beatings or death to create the stew from which such leadership emerges is anyone's guess

(14,919 posts)failed to break his bones (ok, he did sustain a fractured skull a time or two), so a couple of tweets from a cretinous coward hiding behind a keyboard won't hurt him. Just think about how Trump spent his 20's, kicking up his heels in discos and blowing his inherited wealth in the real estate market. And then there was John Lewis, born to a sharecropper, who offered himself as a sacrifice to peace and justice for every one of us. I recently had the privilege of attending a lecture John Lewis gave in Nashville while he was being honored by our public library. Nashville has had a city-wide book reading program, in which one book is chosen and everyone is encouraged to read and discuss it, and Lewis' award-winning graphic novel "March" is the latest selection. The night before his lecture, I was listening to NPR and heard part of Lewis' National Book Award acceptance speech, when he was moved to tears recounting how he and some siblings and cousins had as youngsters gone to their town's public library, but were denied library cards because of their race. During his lecture, Lewis mentioned seeing the photographs of the beaten body of Emmitt Till, and that was before Lewis left home for college. He knew the potential for violence and death, but he became an integral part of the Civil Rights movement. After the murders Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner, which would have made many have second thoughts, Lewis deliberately put himself in danger on a freedom ride (instead of going to a scheduled interview for a fellowship) which resulted in a severe beating. He never wavered, and went to Selma after that. Beaten again. Never wavered. Donald Trump is the polar opposite of the titan of faith, courage, sacrifice, and honor that is John Lewis. As Mr. Khan said so eloquently, Trump has sacrificed nothing. I grieve daily that such a shallow, contemptible, vulgar, worthless human has been elevated to a position of influence and power.
