We are on the verge of a Constitutional Crisis and it may be what we need.

We are living in extraordinary times. The incoming administration and President-Elect is now the target of an investigation. We have a President-Elect who may have conspired with a foreign hostile nation to win a presidential election. The Director of the FBI is under investigation. During the day, watching the news, I have heard more than once the words illegitimate and impeachment.

A couple of weeks ago it seemed as if the country was going to turn into a nation of sheep and ostriches. But now I believe that there are more patriots in this country than we thought. People who love this country too much to allow it to slip away.

Donald Trump is a corrupt unstable liar. His presidency is illegitimate and doomed. And men like John Lewis will not allow us to forget it.

CNN had a big "Comey on the hot seat" banner - for a few hours - it is gone.

I've not seen anything about the Dem reaction to the Comey meeting (posted a bit after noon on DU) on TPM (really surprised about that - they've been on top of this sort of thing since the election), or Slate, or WA Post.

It is all very, very odd. Unsettling. And I hope that it is all about to come tumbling down on this mess.

in the very near future. I made the following comment a day or so ago but I still think this is where our thinking needs to be heading.

{T}here also is no mechanism in the Constitution for what I think we are bout to face. This will be a Constitutional crisis in that I think the level of complicity among the Republicans is rather vast... Here's the list of characters whom I think probably knew enough about the criminal activity and should be criminally charged:

PE, VPE, Speaker of the House, Majority Leader of the US Senate, several other Senators and House members along with the RNC chair and folks over at the Heritage Foundation. I am pretty sure some of these characters even helped promote this opportunity when the idea was being formulated. And then there is the money thing too so.

Should this dearth of information indicating collusion and sedition, most likely treason turn out to be true and provable beyond a reasonable doubt, what then?

We as a nation have to face this new thing and do the best we can to take legal and remedial action which is not outlined or specific in our Constitution. And as has been done in the past, we will have to decide what the path to restoring our democracy will be. I think the founding fathers knew they were not prophets and they gave us enough parameters to work within in order to figure it out for ourselves, and the Constitution is not the eternally final word on how to go forward, it does tell us how to go about it with the intent of retaining a democracy.

This is uncharted territory that we find ourselves in this day, it requires a lot of contemplation and soul-searching as a nation, a culture and as a species and we had better get it right and act swiftly with determination because this will be our last chance at long term survival on this planet in physical form.

And I would like to insert that I suspect that the kocktopus was in on it too, they sure backed off real fast last summer when it was evident to the conspirators/traitors that Putin was serious and that the fix was in. they all get everything they ever wanted as far as no obstructions in any way, the rest of us can go screw ourselves for not being them. And too many are infesting our government as their drones.

I want a redo of the election, if we don't have a mechanism for it then we better get busy and develop one right f'ing now.

It was a farce and corrupted as hell.

Check this out, I was just over at Common Dreams, haven't gone there for a long time but I saw this article/essay and it fits what I have been talking about these past weeks...

Resisting the Trumpublican Shock Doctrine Blitzkrieg

The Trumpublicans are intent on manipulating the shock of Donald Trump’s victory to roll back much of the New Deal and Great Society; ram through unvetted Cabinet appointments intent on undermining the legal mandate of the very Departments they are charged with leading; legitimize unprecedented conflicts of interest; and intimidate opponents, professional civil servants, and the press, in a rapid Blitzkrieg, before the opposition even knows what hit them.

This is a classic case of what Naomi Klein termed “The Shock Doctrine” in her 2007 book of the same title.

Like this part of the Declaration of Independence...

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

It is the rationale for which something can be done since nobody is defending the Constitution right now and besides what other immediate options do we have other than to roll over on our backs and be violated in the most devastating manner?

Obama and its not the answer or atleast not yet as Trump isnt in office yet.
Granted he scares the shit out of me especially with some of the BS the GOP is likely to pass but as of right now if we want to maintain our government our best route is to work harder at the local government level to take those offices back from the school board on up, it will take time but it can be done.
The other area of course is the courts and to challenge anything and everything that the GOP proposes thats clearly a violation of the Constitution in the courts.

Yes, this is a constitutional crisis. Because all we can do at this point is watch Drumpf become the 45th president.

I suspect that any constitutional amendment will fail.

As far as the FBI investigation, the one on Comey MIGHT get to the truth, but if the FBI is going to do the investigation of Russian interfering with our election, I'm not so sure.

Congress would have the courage to pass a requirement for presidential candidates to release their tax returns. I heard lots of complaining if HRC was elected there would be too many Wall Street connections and there will be more with Trumps cabinet than would ever have happened with HRC. Elections has consequences and many had things happening in the next four years should bring concerned people out to vote.

Sorry to be cynical, but unless I see some major moves from the Dem leadership and see a few Repubs who give a crap, I am not going to hold my breath. I cannot deal with any more disappointments. I'm used to wimpy Democrats who have no balls and corrupt Republicans who only care about power and winning. And the majority of the American people who either don't give a crap, are too naive or uninformed, or whose hate over-rides anything. I no longer have much hope that the right thing will be done. I admire the rest of you who have hope. I cannot have my heart ripped out of my chest again and again. I think this country is rotten to the core and only people like us, a minority, really gives a crap.
