You can hear the "suspect" being polite and answering all the questions directly:
On October 10, 2015, a woman called the cops on Lawrence Crosbywho was working on his own vehicleto report that a black man appeared to be breaking into a car and stealing it, Fox Chicago reports.
Hi somebodys trying to break into, somebodys trying to break into a car, she told the 9-11 dispatcher, later adding, I think the person just got into the car.
Crosby was driving towards the Northwestern University campus when police pulled him over. His car was equipped with its own dash cam video, and on the recording Crosby can be heard telling someone he suspected he was being followed.
Police pulled him over in a church parking lot, where Crosby was violently detained for stealing his own car.

The judge threw out the charges against the vehicle owner, but it doesn't appear there will be any consequences for the police.

Quite a "dog pile" of cops that tackled the poor guy!

(5,325 posts)In fact, he said that before he got into the car, he had fixed or adjusted a piece of loose trim or molding. I can see how that could look like prying the door after dark and from more than a minimal distance. Can't really fault the woman for reporting what she saw.
Did look like an overreaction by the police, though.

(24,232 posts)getting out like that is the most dangerous thing ANY driver can do because it is seen as aggression and scares the hell out of the cops.
That said the stop itself was total bullshit.
If he waited in the car he could have shown them his lic and reg to prove ownership and driven away after.

(51,076 posts)was this was a black man. Sure enough this happened to a black man. It sucks the way we treat our Black brothers and sisters as well as our Native American's.
Thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach.
