Now we know what would have happened to Simon Birch if the mom had lived.

N.J. woman sues Little League player over throw that hit her face

A woman from New Jersey is suing a former Little League player for injuries suffered when she was struck in the face by a ball thrown by the young player in a game two years ago.

Elizabeth Lloyd, of Manchester Township, N.J., is asking for more than $150,000 in damages for medical costs, as well as an undetermined amount for pain and suffering.

Lloyd was reportedly seated at a table near the bullpen when she was struck in the face by a ball thrown by then-11-year-old catcher Matthew Migliaccio, who was warming up a pitcher at the time, during a Manchester Little League game.

"I ran over to see if she was all right," the now-13-year-old Migliaccio told the Asbury Park Press. "She said she was OK. I was just on with warming the pitcher up, and I was not horsing around."

I don't see how an 11-yr-old can be sued for anything, much less a baseball thrown legitimately Nay Jun 2012 #1

My son's in Little League. Going to the games means knowing there will be wild throws and pitches. This is crazy.

or the designer of the field.

She could have had severe injuries, so she should just suck it up? Some adults/organizations might have been negligent. The kids should not be throwing the ball where it could hit people. Have them practice out in the field.

The kids should not have been throwing the ball where it could hit people? It's a freaking baseball field/diamond. Where should they throw a ball? Under water, in a swimming pool? On an indooor firing range?

We always warmed up behind the dugouts. Everyone with 1/2 a mind knows that is where everyone warms up.

Stupid sue crazed people these days and the lawyers that take their cases....there's a special place in hell for them.

We sat behind fences at Little League fields. Hardly anyone gets hit with a ball. Besides, you don't know the facts here. It depends on what happened. It's common sense not to set up the field so people are likely to get hit. And supervise the kids so they throw the ball on the field and not near the stands.

And if you were hit you'd juts suck it up, right, even if the injuries were severe. Maybe even apologize to the team coach?

Broke my nose.

My parents had health insurance. I was fixed. As my Dad told me, "It's part of the game". But then, my Dad didn't coddle me. He took me to AAA ballgames, to the dog and horse track and the bowling alley to watch his league play.

No need to apologize. Just realize that it was an ACCIDENT.

She was sitting NEXT TO THE BULLPEN! Duh

Most kids these days are missing out on soooo much.

We need to wrap them in bubble wrap and packing material, so as not to let them ever get hurt.

My guy grew up playing hockey on the river across the street from his house...and the horror, he never wore a helmet....just 15 yr old knee pads.

We swam in irrigation ditches and drank unpasteurized milk. More horror!

I'm glad that my great nephews have my fiance to show them how to "play".

"Lloyd was reportedly seated at a table near the bullpen"

WTF was a table doing in this particular area? If the table was in an "ok" location, WhyTF was a player allowed to throw a ball were people would obviously be setting? Someone is at fault for either allowing the table to be put in a dangerous location or allowing a player to play in an unsafe location. The woman IMO should at least have her medical bills paid, unless she is the one who put the table there.

It's one thing what she does at home, but taking balls to the face in front of children is just wrong.

If I were the coach of this league I would change the team name to the Tea Bags and I'd use a picture of her face as the mascot. Now that would be justice.
