...my sister was a victim (after I left home) and no one protected her... her quality of life has suffered greatly from the abuse, but mostly from the betrayal by our mother!

That these horrors were allowed without consequences to the perpetrator, UNTIL YESTERDAY, is an abomination in our society. I hope this case, as well as the conviction of the pedophile enabling priest in Pennsylvania, ALSO YESTERDAY, represent a positive sea change for children.

for these crimes should be eliminated, or at least extended way beyond what they are now. Children caught up in these situations are often not in a position to report such crimes when they occur. Also, those who know of these crimes must be held accountable for not reporting them immediately, not just those of us who are professionals, like MD's and nurses, but all of them. They should be prosecuted as accesories if they do not report these criminals.

Remember, many of these victims are groomed and basically either brainwashed or threatened into silence. Many repress the memories until much later in life, or they feel guilty that they went along with abuse when they were to young to be responsible for making such choices. Our society has a lot to answer for in the "blame the victim" mentality that many have here. One of the most shocking things about these cases is that people that find out about these crimes at the time oftenhave more sympathy for the predator than the victims. It's insane.
