She was great. But who that conservative guy who kept interupting her? I've never seen him before.

(53,339 posts)He sounded like a Libertarian, so I looked him up. Bingo! He's editor-in-chief of Libertarian website reason.com. He also has a new book out.

(21,925 posts)He seemed to suggest that Rachel saw facts only through the prism of her ideology. Actually it was Gillespie who seemed to mouth corporate talking points all night, on fracking, on GM foods, and the rest.

(53,339 posts)Rachel was good at calling him on it, though. He was doing a lot of projection.

(12,448 posts)if he had, he would have known that she's several orders of magnitude smarter than him.

(25,322 posts)Libertarians have a very high opinion of themselves. He may well have fantasized about taking Rachel down without the need to do any homework.

(9 posts)Why didn't Rachel Maddow say what her opinion of Romneycare is? I found it weird, she isn't a reporter, she is a policy Analyst. The only thing I could think was that she supports it, but didn't want to give Romney the sound bite. Btw this is my first post, Hi all.

(9 posts)I think Romney is a horrible pick to be President, I mean we thought Herman Cain had potential. I'm from Mass and Romneycare is good, I am not on it(private care) but I support the policy. In fact, it might save my friends life.

(9 posts)The reason I love politics is because you can state your opinion and have an open conversation. I have lurked here for awhile and believe i can handle myself just fine.

(4,310 posts)a Libertarian prick that kept insinuated he knew her position before she could state it.
She didn't want to give him the opportunity to interrogate her. As soon as the show
started he had her in his sights. I love watching these people attempt to intellectually
corral her. She's always ten steps ahead of them.

(189 posts)but there are some conversational places she can not go without being bushwhacked.
She does not handle herself very well when confronted by someone who is reasoning in bad faith. She keeps trying to be reasonable, and the other person just shouts her down with soundbites. It's easy to troll Rachel.
While I think rachel won the debate tonight on points, I know better. This wasn't a debate that was scored in points: It was scored in soundbites. To most of the audience she appeared weak, because she didn't throw a sound bite at that Libertarian shill that made him pause.
She needed to make him pause for just a third of a second. That would have been the give-away for the audience. It would have given her the opening to take charge of the dialog and pose a quotable, unanswerable question back to the ShillMaster sitting in the end seat.
... but like I said; I've never seen her do it as a guest on another host's show.

(31,706 posts)Firstly, this isn't Rachel's show...she was a guest and could barely get a word in edgewise over the ramblings of the Libertarian.
Secondly...she's not a "policy analyst"...she's a journalist who supports the ACA which is similar to Romneycare. So what? The most damning soundbite to most is Rmoney talking 16 different positions on his own healthcare plan.

(42,770 posts)like his Romneycare - since back then, he was more like a dem.
think Rachel would be all about helping anyone seek/get healthcare.
