(42,759 posts)On Death Row after numerous appeals.

(17,305 posts)He'd probably die a lot sooner than that!

(14,337 posts)He would suffer far more in the general prison population. Death is quick. If I were on that jury, I would give him life without the possibility of parole. Let him get prison justice as a very young man with his whole life ahead of him.

(2,620 posts)- an admission of guilt
- video & eye-witness proof of the perp
- forensic evidence
- the perp knew what he was doing
I see NO reason why he should die of old age.
Schedule the execution & let's be done with it.

(23,926 posts)I can defend the execution of Dylann Roof in either instance. It's lawful, and he's well ...

Makes me very sad to see so many so called progressives cheering the death penalty.

(4,512 posts)I explain.
The death penalty is a horrible thing that should not exist in any civilized society. Regardless of the crime, I find celebration of "legal homicide" sickening.

(23,926 posts)for years. But in South Fucking Carolina, a state which has executed African-American defendants for decades, often on flimsy evidence; how in the fuck can I justify giving a pass to a white punk who murdered nine African-American church goers, and admits that he did it?
Sorry, fuck him.

(34,648 posts)Why keep an unremorseful murderer alive? No reason, imo. He wants to die; let's give him his last wish

(1,290 posts)We're supposed to punish him, not send him off to his imagined reward for his evil deeds.

(34,648 posts)For him to be so fucked up makes me sad. I actually dont want him there for decades suffering, he alao does not want to sit there thinking about what he did. I get that. Too hard to fix. Best let him go on his way.

(4,512 posts)and who gets to draw it?
Nine African American church goers - check.
5 Asian bankers in a meeting?
3 white atheists on welfare?
15 mixed race Republicans at a convention?

(17,379 posts)with human contact kept to an absolute minimum, is a far better punishment.
Let him sit in a dimly lit room for 70 years and think about what he did.
But if he does end up with a needle in his arm, I won't be shedding any tears.

(12,132 posts)or does that state take over in his "interest"?
Either way, I am 100% against the death penalty and nothing here sways me a percent. I think he's getting what he wants and I would prefer he didn't get what he wants.

(86,646 posts)this means he gets to waste untold amounts of taxpayer $$ in nearly endless appeals... But then, he may end up like Dahmer.

(4,150 posts)I simply cannot condone the state taking the life of one of its citizens. One could argue that the perpetrator "waived" his rights, or he "deserves" it, because he "chose" to kill. . . .
I'm not arguing whether somebody "deserves" it or not. That's not the issue here. The issue here is that we are one of the ONLY "first world" nations that uses the death penalty. Life imprisonment for Mr. Roof would be a far more difficult sentence to handle than lethal injection. Why not allow Mr. Roof the rest of his life in prison to contemplate what he did? And I don't imagine his prison life would amount to much fun, as his notoriety would precede him wherever he might be incarcerated. Nonetheless, I am not advocating for violence against him either. Prisoners should be treated humanely yet like prisoners.
We cannot allow the incoming administration to force us into losing our humanity. Just because the President of the United States is a goddamned bully, misognyist and racist and has brought the word "pussy" into the national spotlight, WE shouldn't permit ourselves to become jaded in regards to violence.
