We should counter voter suppression with a vote-by-mail drive across the country.

In every state with a referendum system, voters should propose a vote-by-mail system
like the ones we have in Washington and Oregon (California has something similar, but not quite).

In every state without a referendum system, we should start heavily lobbying our state Houses to pass a law. Tell them you want a law like in Washington and Oregon that lets everyone vote by mail -- it's no different than letting everyone vote absentee. Every state is already set up to handle absentee paper ballots, even the states that use electronic machines (which they won't need anymore.)

Registered voters in WA are automatically sent a paper ballot three weeks before an election, and can either mail it back or drop it in a special drop box. Then we can go online and make sure it was received.

Compared to the rest of the country, vote-by-mail states had much higher voter participation rates (in the 70's); and voting by mail uses paper ballots that can be saved and recounted.

Anyone in those zip codes can go online and see that their votes have been counted. pnwmom Jan 2017 #2

In red states, voter registrations by mail somehow keep getting lost in time for election there. As well, provisional and absentee ballots by the tens of thousands keep getting gobbled up by some kind of ballot-eating monster, so it's hard to believe voting by mail in red states would be anything other than laughable!

Voting should be mandatory like in Australia, with a big fine if you don't.
