If so, don't fail to communicate with them soon about the Affordable Care Act. Democrats are already fighting the "Repeal and Run" strategy, but they're going to need help from some Republicans if they're going to stop the creation of chaos if ACA is repealed without a good working replacement.
You might think it's a waste of time to write, email, or call your Republican House Representative or Senators. It's not. Register your opinion with them, strongly but without name-calling. If you have an ACA story to tell that demonstrates how important it is to you, tell it. Explain that you are a voter in that person's state or congressional district and are watching closely to see what action is taken.
Don't delay. Do it today. Encourage others you know to do the same. Everyone in Congress has to face elections. Don't let them forget that you are watching what they do. Make yourself clear.
If ever there was a time to communicate with Congress, it is now. Don't miss your chance to speak your mind. If enough people do, it may affect how people in Congress vote. We won't get everyone to change his or her mind, but if we can get some, we could change the course of things.
Please, folks, let your Republican legislators know how you feel. You could save your own life or the life of someone else who might suffer and die for lack of healthcare coverage.
Thanks!

(146,317 posts)My House Rep is Betty McCollum, and my Senators are Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar. They're already on the job, fighting against Trump's plans. But a lot of DUers live in red states and often don't feel like it does any good to contact their people in Congress.
It does, though, or can. Everyone should communicate regularly with their legislators, both federal and state. It takes only a few minutes to email them on important issues. Does it matter? Well, not always, but it can matter if enough people do it.

(23,926 posts)Two Dem Senators (Kaine and Warner), and a Dem (Gerry Connolly) as my Rep. My Senators are a bit too centrist for my taste, but it's Virginia, and they need to win a state-wide election. In any case, I will contact all three; but I believe they can already be relied upon to stand against the Trump agenda.

(146,317 posts)with your opinion, especially if you can write well enough to express yourself clearly and have examples you can include. While it can often seem like a waste of time, it's not. They do pay attention to constituent opinions, although they don't always act the way you want.
Most people don't bother to communicate, so those who do are more effective than those who do not.
I know it's frustrating, but please don't stop doing that.

(16,110 posts)we joke that they will get a restraining order against us contacting them.
We always get the same fuck off and die form letter back.

(58,666 posts)that every letter to the editor or to a politician's office represents the opinions of 10 people at large, give or take.
It may be "hopeless" to write RW ideologues, but if they subscribe to the feelings above and receive enough letters, they might start to get the idea that their "populist" messages are not as popular as they want to think.

(22,099 posts)Yeah, those two. Sent emails to them last week about inaugurating Trump. Got a form back from Ryan telling me how important my opinion is, and he is working for me.
Time for two more on ACA, but its like putting lipstick on a pig.

(362 posts)Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott are my Senators and Mark (walkin' the Appalachian Trail) Sanford is my Rep.
But Beaufort County South Carolina which includes Hilton Head did vote 41% for Clinton and 55% for Trump, which wasn't as bad as I expected.
