Rick Steves, no matter what you think of his "Europe thru the Back Door" travel series, is a good person.

(60,334 posts)I dont want to be filthy rich in a desperately poor world. I want to walk the street safely, leave the car unlocked, see people take their kids to school and have them play sports without fear of gangs.
He is a generally a great person.

(2,574 posts)It's the dialectic NONE of them understand...the Repubs agenda of relentless managed misery (i.e. austerity), racism. sexism, resentment etc only impoverishes everybody's life, including their own.
This whole article should be megaphoned throughout the country. What a great guy Stevens is and what a wonderfully clear messenger he is for the essential social contract of democracy.

(15,540 posts)You can tell by watching them and listening to his commentary that he's a worldly person because of his extensive travels and that he's a liberal which, no matter how much the goofy right wants to put a negative connotation on the word, is something I'm very proud to call myself.
Rick Steves is a genuinely good person.

Out of all my travels, there are only two establishments I would not patronize again, and neither one was terrible, just not to my personal taste. Not a bad record, considering I've probably stayed at 30 or so places recommended in his books.
