This deserves a repost: A manifesto for the Entitled.
Some on this forum seem to think the enemy is us, or rather part of our coalition that they do not like or respect. People who don't have enough education. People who could have a better job outside a coal mine if only they tried. People who aren't politically correct enough. People who don't know what cis-gendered means and therefore must be anti-trans. People who want to focus on solidarity and unification instead of separating into soloed identity groups. None of those are the real enemy. Let's stop attacking other Democrats for not fitting into our vision of what a perfect Democrat should be. That's not only not productive, it is counter productive. It drives people away and gets us nowhere.
Infighting between the various constituencies of the working class has always been what the elite class has wanted and has always prevented us from real change. The real enemy are the economic elites who benefit from the current rules and use their economic and political power to squeeze even more benefits for themselves from our laws and regulations while leaving all of the rest of us behind. And in the process, the already disadvantaged, including people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBT people, get hurt the most of all.
Steven Pearlstein explains below who the real enemy is. Let's keep our eyes on the prize people.
I am a job creator: A manifesto for the entitled
* * *
I am the misunderstood superhero of American capitalism, single-handedly creating wealth and prosperity despite all the obstacles put in my way by employees, government and the media.
I am a job creator and I am entitled.
I am entitled to complain about the economy even when my stock price, my portfolio and my profits are at record levels.
I am entitled to a healthy and well-educated workforce, a modern and efficient transportation system and protection for my person and property, just as I am entitled to demonize the government workers who provide them.
I am entitled to complain bitterly about taxes that are always too high, even when they are at record lows.
I am entitled to a judicial system that efficiently enforces contracts and legal obligations on customers, suppliers and employees but does not afford them the same right in return.
I am entitled to complain about the poor quality of service provided by government agencies even as I leave my own customers on hold for 35 minutes while repeatedly telling them how important their call is.
I am entitled to a compensation package that is above average for my companys size and industry, reflecting the companys aspirations if not its performance.
