Esteban Santiago: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Esteban Santiago, reportedly a U.S. citizen with military identification, is accused of being the shooter who randomly gunned down at least 13 people at a Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport baggage claim area.

MSNBC said the shooter may have retrieved a gun from his luggage after arriving on a flight and NBC News reported that the weapon may have been checked “lawfully.” The Palm Beach Post reported that the gunman may have emerged shooting from a bathroom. Some reports said he traveled through Canada, but ABC News is now reporting he went from Anchorage through Minneapolis to Fort Lauderdale.

Here are the TSA rules on flying with a gun

Airlines routinely let passengers travel with unloaded guns in their checked baggage - and leave it up to customers to know and obey gun laws when they land.

The TSA has a basic set of rules, and individual airlines add to them.

Delta - the airline used by the shooter who pulled a firearm from his checked baggage and killed five people after landing at Ft. Lauderdale airport Friday - says on its website that all firearms must be declared at "the main ticketing counter" before traveling on a Delta flight.

The firearm must be unloaded, per TSA regulations, and the owner must sign a "Firearms Unloaded" declaration, the airline says.

You do not have access to it during the flight. Perhaps you do not understand that. Same with knives, pointy sticks, etc.

He should never have been anywhere NEAR a gun, let alone a gun on a flight that he could simply take out of his checked luggage, go into the loo, load it and go on a killing spree in a airport.

It's madness!!!

My respect for the FBI keeps declining. What the heck are they doing? They really need to do more on the domestic terrorism front because it is so easy for people to radicalize online now.

the second time the FBI has been aware of, and interacted with, someone expressing violent, terrorist viewpoints and let them walk unflagged.

I still oppose the lack of due process of such lists, but this and Charleston both had cause for action yet the tools in place were not used.
