How about we all use an inverted American flag avatar?
For those who don't know, an upside down American flag is not a sign of disrespect. It is a signal of distress.
I recently had a discussion with DUer DLevine (who uses an inverted American flag as his avatar) on this subject and we spoke about the possibility of many, if not most here on DU, changing our avatars to an inverted American flag as a statement of distress and resistance.
Many here did so during the Cheney/Bush years. And now that our country is hovering on the edge of a cliff, perhaps it's time we all adapted it to "make a statement." That may sound a bit trivial, but given that we control none of the levers of power, making a strong statement is important. It says that we believe our country is in distress.
I'll probably change my avatar from my Eiffel Tower in a day or so (if I can remember how to do it). How about joining DLevine, me, and so many others here on DU by using this as a symbol of distress, and our resistance to the impending threats to our freedoms and our country.

On edit: As you can see above, I figured out how to change my avatar. I'm really gonna miss my Eiffel Tower, but hopefully, I'll be able to change it back sometime in the not-to-distant future.
