This sonuvabitch knows exactly what he is doing.
The sheep look at these times as simple politics. They do not see that they are being led to the slaughter. They think it is nothing more than Democrat vs Republican. But that is the least of it.
It is difficult to find a time in history when our country was under such a threat. Maybe when the British burned our Capitol?
I remember Watergate very well. The threat we are presently under is much, much worse, in my opinion. Our institutions, such as a free press and honest elections, are threatened from external sources. We have a President-elect that has refused to show his tax returns or to be transparent in any way. We do not know who he is allied with?
The media and the politicians in Washington are slow to recognize what is happening to our country. By the time they see the truth, it may be too late?
Mayday! Mayday! Wake up America! You are very close to the slaughter.

(14,567 posts)People here don't understand it isn't a 50/50 split.
We are just 1/3 of the country, those of us that deal in facts, reality and have a sense of working collectively to have everyone be successful.
Of course there is the 1/3 who are full on Republican that have totally bought that Bullshit.
But, there is the "middle" 1/3 of "independents and those who are apolitical. For whatever reason they, as they did this election, more often than not break toward favoring the conservative bullshit.
These people either buy some aspect of what Rs sell, or are willing to accept it.
I know people who will STILL tell me it makes no difference who is in office, it doesn't affect them personally, etc.....fucking CLUELESS

Rough times ahead.
And a good chance the zombies that now populate this country are going to take it.

(21,088 posts)Many of us, both outside and inside the US, noticed the direction things were going throughout the last decade, and tried to raise the alarm. We were consistently rebuked - even here on DU - and called doomsayers, Cassandras and Nervous Nellies. We have been lectured for our failure of comprehension, and told that if we thought the USA was becoming a fascist police state, or an oligarchy, or a plutocracy, that we had no idea what fascism, police states or oligarchy really are.
Well, they're here...
The fact that the world has bumped into the Limits to Growth that were forecast in that infamous, eponymous book in 1972, has fueled the worldwide rise of authoritarianism in previously liberal societies - to such an extent that Justin Trudeau of Canada has been called the last progressive leader of a major nation still standing (Angela Merkel, the only other candidate for that sorry title, self-identifies as a conservative.)
Speaking from abroad, I will say that it's not just America that's under threat. The entire world is undergoing convulsions of conservatism that, while they may be less acute than the last such paroxysm in 1936, are far more likely to be permanent. It's ironic that American Republicans deny global climate change while they are themselves evidence of a parallel and equally threatening change in the human climate of the planet. It's even more ironic that both types of climate change can be traced back to the same roots in our global culture of endless growth.
It's far too late for a Mayday, the wheelhouse has gone under. In any event, since we are all on this ship there is nobody "out there" to sail to our rescue.

but we are the only ones to sail to our rescue of course there is a lot of denial but hopefully we will come out of the ether. Hopefully we won't wait long....sigh
there is no Calvary coming to the rescue here in the US.

(82,849 posts)The imminent savaging of the Affordable Care Act (for example) will have many bad effects in rural areas and small towns. Local hospitals will almost surely be closing, knocked out by Republican cruelty and failure of some states to take advantage of the Medicare expansion money (which Republicans successfully challenged from a mandatory part of the ACA to an optional feature).
Democratic activists in those areas should be telling the people there that they problems they can see with their own eyes are due to Republican policies and failures. We could also be telling people how Democrats can fix those problems if they're given a chance in the 2018 election.
Or, we can sit back and cluck at the ignorant hicks who brought calamity on themselves.
