https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/01/03/the-democratic-party-builds-a-war-room-to-battle-trump/?utm_term=.14302ab8fc95The Democratic National Committee is building a war room to battle President-elect Donald Trump, pressure the new Republican administration on a variety of policy matters and train a spotlight on Russia's alleged cyberattacks to influence the 2016 election.
The DNC's new communications and research operation, to be staffed by former aides to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, will be one of several efforts from across the Democratic firmament to take on Trump, including the office of Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), the Center for American Progress and American Bridge...
Key priorities for the new DNC war room will be to shine a spotlight on Trump's conflicts of interest with his business enterprises as well as on Russia's alleged interference during last year's campaign. U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia hacked DNC emails, as well as the private email account of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, to influence the election in Trump's favor.

this is a tad late in the game IMO and it still seems it is more of the same with the aides of HRC running the show. Haven't we been beaten and kicked down enough? Not very giddy over this b/c we are Dems and we do not know how to fight for our beliefs. Sorry, not trying to be a downer but this is a blip on the radar when we need a full on nuclear sized blip.
I'm waiting for "sternly worded memos" to start going out any day now.
That said... maybe the recent defeat has put some fire into some of them.

(24,567 posts)prominently in your thread title. I think that is the new rule here.
berksdem
(595 posts)Not everyone is looking at this as throwing cold water. I am all for it but think the message needs to meet the intent. And I hope it does....
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,412 posts)I know that we are all still in recovery for what happened in November and, yes, the whole situation sucks (to put it mildly) but I'm getting more irritated and annoyed with the pessimism and defeatism I'm hearing a lot of on here (and elsewhere). The fact that Democrats are doing stuff and at least trying to be more aggressive than they have been in years should be looked at as a good sign IMHO.
berksdem
(595 posts)me honestly. This should have been in the works a while ago. Absolutely, it is a start and I hope it is helpful.
berksdem
(595 posts)why some Dems can't take any criticism. We are all in the same boat here and maybe we need to be a bit more introspective and develop and strong and clear message. Something we are not very good of as late.
mcar
(42,334 posts)It's negativity and complaining about Dems. Here's your statement.
this is a tad late in the game IMO and it still seems it is more of the same with the aides of HRC running the show. Haven't we been beaten and kicked down enough? Not very giddy over this b/c we are Dems and we do not know how to fight for our beliefs. Sorry, not trying to be a downer but this is a blip on the radar when we need a full on nuclear sized blip.
What is constructive about this: "late in the game," "more of the same," "beaten and kicked down," "we don't know how to fight for our beliefs." How does that help anyone be introspective? It's just running Dems down.
let me guess... we are supposed to all keep whining on this board? Hey, if that is the plan moving forward have at it but the party needs a jolt right now. How is negative to say that it was late in the game? Have we not been embarrassed by losing to the absolute worst presidential candidate in the history of our country?
Introspective - begin with a 50 state platform. DO NOT ignore states that were thought to be in the bag. Develop a clear agenda and communicate the agenda to the American people. Have a voice and use the voice to oppose Trump and clearly articulate why this is bad for the American voters.
You act like everything is fine an dandy... I am merely calling out the issues I see in the party right now. If you don't like hearing it please just move along. Christ, we are such a party of wimps...
mcar
(42,334 posts)My OP is highlighting a positive move the DNC is making to deal with this nightmare.
Until this post, you didn't call out any issues - that was my point. Interesting that this post of yours says
is that every single time someone reads something is that is perceived as negative people have a heart attack. Folks around here were bashed similarly for telling people the election was NOT in the bag and that they were negative trolls. They were right... they were absolute right about the election.
If you would go back and read the posts I agreed this was a good move. I also believe that it should have happened a month or so ago. And maybe I am jaded to think that the same group of Dems that just got beat are running the committee.
If you want to paint rainbows and unicorns all day have fun. Keep inside the bubble and watch as our party keeps getting kicked to the curb. I mean, really, do you truly believe our party is good at getting our message out?

berksdem
(595 posts)On this entire post. I clearly stated this should have been in the works a while ago - idea number 1. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess... I also stated that what we need is a strong and direct message from this group - idea number 2. Not a sternly worded memo as another poster put it....
Part of the solution is the fact that our party (example is DU) that people need to stop the infighting and deal with the issue. Stop cutting otherd down bc they don't live in a bubble. That bubble is what got us here...
I work hard in my district and within my local group.... I don't need to be told to be part of the solution.

(12,894 posts)I was using it as a rally call for ALL of us. I apologize if you feel offended. I know things are tough right now, but we have got to buck up and get tough. Believe me, I never thought we would be in such dire straits from a botched election again, especially like this. But, here we are. Two steps forward, three steps back...
berksdem
(595 posts)No bad intent whatsoever.... And what you just posted is pretty much my entire point for heaven's sake. Get tough and call the bastards out.... Appeal to voters by clearly articulating the agenda.

Most Dems haven's seemed to have learned HOW to fight hard enough vs thuglicans 😢 I respect and admire Pres. Obama a great deal, but constantly reaching out that olive branch to thuglicans and having them cut his hand completely OFF at the wrist these past 8 years has been so disconcerting. Which is why I was SO happy to see Pres. Obama beating thuglicans at their own game IE: Pres. Obama using the Antiquities Act of 1906, which will designate 1.35 million acres Bears Ears as a national monument (Hopefully it'll stick, but if thuglicans go after and somehow "steal" this land back, it wouldn't be the first time as we know that Native Land has been stolen from them).
Per thuglican Chaffetz:
Utah's Rep. Jason Chaffetz was very upset and called President Obama "arrogant" for using the Antiquities Act of 1906, to designate the 1.35-million-acre Bears Ears area as a national monument. Chaffetz says that he may investigate that "arrogant" Pres. Obama over this.
Like I said, Pres. Obama (With an 81 years ago assist from Democrat FDR) beat them at their OWN game and they're "angry"
Great win which will hopefully stick, but I wished that we as Dems would grow a permanent "pair."
berksdem
(595 posts)We are soft. Do we need to resort to dirty politics like the Rethugs? Absolutely not but we need to do a hell of a lot better at getting our message across.

(595 posts)I think we need someone in the mold of Warren. Someone that has the guts to call out the damned policies and willing to battle. As another post suggested maybe this loss is what the party needed. I am not against this "war room" but it needs to be a strong voice. The one part of the release that caught my eye was focusing on down-ballot which is greatly needed.
Until we have a new party chair everything is up in the air. When that person is elected I think we will see where this goes... I just hope it is exactly like what the GOPhers did to Obama. Time to fight fire with fire...

(2,897 posts)many would be over the moon if their fave just gave a speech or an interview, but when Democrats actually do something, it's treated as if it's not enough.
We went through weeks of "Why aren't democrats fighting" when they weren't taking interview after interview and now that Dems are actually using their platform, folks are finding something new to bitch about.

To shine a spot light on his business interest----------------is he or is he not going to put them in a "blind trust" ?
If not, file formal paperwork to have him impeached through this "war office", where does it say that they can or cannot do this in the Constitution or the laws of the country, that's where they should start

(6,409 posts)One of the problems we had was too much focus on a centralized party, lack of attention at the state and local level, too many national staffers paid to crunch numbers created from meaningless data, and so on. So the reaction from many people is, "More of the same." They might be right, although time will tell. To those complaining it's not progressive enough, maybe it's time to get in there and ensure the national party organization uses its time and energy for progressive measures. That would mean turning this "war room" idea into something useful. Or shutting it down. But maybe we should see where it goes before we get too excited.
