Dog Mauls Family After They Try to Dress It in a Christmas Sweater

A pit bull mix named Scarface attacked its owner on Friday after she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, police confirm to PEOPLE. Police said the dog attacked 52-year-old Brenda Guerrero, biting her arm, in the back yard of her Tampa, Florida, home when she tried to put a Christmas sweater on it, WABC reports. Guerrero’s husband, Ismael, and their 22-year-old son tried to help the woman but were both attacked by the dog.

“Officers responding said the dog was pretty aggressive,” Eddy Durkin with the Tampa Police Department told WABC. “When they tazed the dog, the dog was still pulling away and was able to release the prongs from the tazer. The couple’s son reportedly stabbed the dog in an effort to stop the attack, WFLA reports.

All three escaped the house, leaving the dog in the backyard, according to WTSP. They were all reportedly treated for their injuries at a local hospital, with authorities calling Guerrero’s serious but not life-threatening. Animal Control officials responded to the scene and shot the pit bull with a tranquilizer gun, according to WTSP. The dog managed to get into the home, where there were two children present.

Authorities eventually managed to subdue the dog using a bean bag gun and stun gun and captured it with a catch pole, WTSP reports. It is unclear whether the dog will be euthanized.

I put a doggie jean jacket on my dog, and all I got was a dirty look.

Some animals like being dressed up. Many don't but they won't get aggressive about it. This dog was probably giving some signals that the owners chose to ignore because they wanted a cute picture.

and after watching some people struggle to dress their dogs, you feel sorry for their kids.
BTW I dress our bulldog occasionally, she preens like a rock star over the added attention from strangers. I started when she was weeks old and I would never do it if she even once balked at the idea.

I miss them all - Raftery, Magee, Jordan, and Teakie.

They came into this world in the most beautiful outfits any one could imagine.

I so miss my furry girls.

this is a psycho dog. Sweater or not. His reaction was insane. Like a horse that won't let you work on his feet, a dog that reacts to something like this in a violent way is worthless.

When my kids were toddlers we had a neighbor like that, who kept an unneutered pit bull chained in his backyard just to show how manly he was. That was just another reason I was terrified of our kids escaping the house. It wasn't a great neighborhood.

I was much relieved when the guy got arrested for beating up his girlfriend. The dog was taken away and probably euthanized. Sad for the girlfriend and the dog, but not the asshole guy. Maybe guys like that should be neutered.

The next tenants of the house were a young couple like us, who'd just had a baby.

We now have next door neighbors who have a pit bull, but she's a sweet thing. She was spayed and adopted at the animal shelter as a puppy, and raised without punishment or physical abuse. Our shelters are very careful about pit bull adoptions and people have to agree to random home inspections.

Still, too many pit bulls have been bred by the macho assholes. It's not the only dog breed that's been so abused. Even "traditionally" friendly breeds can be turned into monsters.

I see this shit all over the internet. The manly assholes. They're always gloating "Yeah, I've got 15 shotguns, lots of ammo, and two pitbulls! Just try and break into my house, motherfuckers! I'll go Dirty Harry on your asses!". Dude, you live in middle of nowhere, Arkansas. Nobody is going to break into your house. You can cut that shit out. All you're doing is proving you're the crazy guy who abuses animals and thinks the government is coming to take your guns away. You probably should have them taken away.

so I asked him why. He told me he was trying to get the dog to 'bulk up'.

On another occasion I saw a teenager walking around a pet store with a pit bull puppy under his arm. He didn't seem to know what he was doing - so I asked him if he needed help, even though I didn't work there. After I showed him where to buy puppy food I suggested he get a collar and a leash. Then I asked him if he had taken it to the vet yet. He said the dog wasn't sick. I had to explain to him that a puppy needs shots...

Poor dog. The kid probably didn't have the money to actually care for a pet. And he certainly didn't have the knowledge.

However, I wouldn't be nearly as concerned about bites from chihuahuas, or nearly any other breed.

The power of pit bulls is a big factor too, obviously!

I use to run with her just about everday. She was raised from a pup a very well taken care of. Although she was a bautiful and vey intligent dig I would never own one and would recommend the same. Particularly anyone with infants or young kids.

he was an adult, massive pit. Obviously they knew nothing about this dog. I have a dog boarding business. Cage and leash free. I do not take aggressive dogs. I have no pit bulls here by way of screening. Can't afford the liability and danger to other people's dogs.
