(2,955 posts)Israelis are in the unfortunate situation of being completely surrounded by countries that hate them. They REALLY don't want to see the surrounding countries get nuclear weapons.

(253 posts)Because I believe it is entirely apropos here, I repeat below a response I made to an earlier thread:
"Lets look back to 2015 when the Israeli government did everything it could to block the Iran Nuclear deal. Really the only argument they made at the time was that the agreement would lead to Iran being able to produce a nuclear weapon within a few months after the end of the 10 year centrifuge limitations. This argument, as with others that the Israeli government made, was rather pathetic. Why? Because without these and other limitations, the Iranians could have finished development of, and constructed, a nuclear weapon within a few months of the end of negotiations leading to the deal - which would have been in 2015. No deal and the Iranians would already have constructed a nuclear weapon months ago. The Israeli government's position was non-sensical unless it is concluded that what they really wanted was an excuse to bomb Iran and get the United States to join in the bombing. And, by the way, no one has ever offered any reason to believe that such bombing would successfully have deprived Iran of a nuclear weapon capability. The only conclusion one can draw is that the Israelis "believed" that they, with the help of the U.S. military, could have imposed a Carthaginian (salted earth) Peace on Iran. What a ludicrous idea!
So now when President Obama and his administration look askance at the Israeli governments motives - and for good and sufficient reasons - Netanyahu's response is to malign and defame the president for his refusal to play the role of his lap dog in the U.N.Security Council. The Israeli government seems to be hoping that through its anti-Obama rants they can con Trump and his incoming administration into support of an unnecessary war that President Obama and Secretaries Kerry and Moniz had the good sense to avoid."
