The solidly American FBI agents, the professional CIA operatives, the good-hearted local police officer swimming in a sea of asshole ideology. There are a lot of good people out there doing their jobs right, and for the right reasons.

They've got it worse than anyone. And we need them to stay in and fight. They're getting it from both sides, just because -- human. Now they're going to be behind enemy lines for a long time, without hope of reprieve.

Send them some good thoughts and energy. In the end, they may be the difference between life and death of the human species.

3. Right now, I'd say the soul of the nation rests in their hands.

Every hateful miscreant in the nation believes, rightly or wrongly, that, as of January 20th, their time has come. They believe they'll have a free hand to harass, intimidate, beat or even kill the objects of their hatred: Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, women, liberals, LGBT, Jews, whomever. And they believe that law enforcement, at the local, state, or federal level, will have their backs - or will at least look the other way for them.

We'll soon know whether or not they're right. All hope rests in the hands of the legions of good and conscientious people in law enforcement who are the subject of the OP. We will need to support them, and help them to ensure that the rule of law will prevail over mob rule.

I'm sure a lot of them are very good and dedicated public servants better qualified to be President than the charlatan who has never served anyone but himself and has no idea what he's doing but still managed to hijack the ideologically bankrupt Republican Party and then get elected thanks to an undemocratic electoral system that was set up to accommodate slavery.

I don't know what I'd do in that situation. Several decades ago I turned down an internship in DC largely because I didn't want to work for the Reagan cabal; this is even worse IMO. There may already be some resumes in the mail. Tough call.
