I liked him. He said we must start re-building state parties and is in favor of using Dean's 50 state strategy.
We need to talk about the bread and butter issues, to talk about peoples daily lives. I think that is at the core of what we have to do as a party and that has to be the focus of the next chair, he said.
Harrison has an impressive resume and compelling personal narrative. He likens his story to the American dream, which took him from poverty and food stamps to college and law degrees from Yale and Georgetown. He taught at his old high school in Orangeburg and then went to Washington, D.C., to hold senior positions on the staff of U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, who at that point was already in House Democratic leadership.

(1,499 posts)The two primary camps (and the MSM) have decided this is a two person contest but Harrison has worked his tail off for the Party in a tough environment and accomplished a lot.
I like Keith's politics and support him for that reason but I saw Jaime on the ground during the GE and he is impressive as well.

(35,454 posts)and to his credit, he brought up a subject that I have always considered a missed opportunity, Dean's 50 state strategy, which was highly successful. In fact was one big reason Obama got elected. Anyway, when the Obama team entered the WH, Rahm had a real antipathy towards Dean who was replaced immediately in what was, I may add, a shameful way. The 50 state strategy was dropped. Kaine, who replaced him was, imho, totally ineffective as was Wasserman Schultz.
The reason Rahm was furious with Dean was because Rahm was in charge of getting house members elected and wanted the focus of the money on his chosen and not very successful blue dog candidates and Dean insisted on putting it into the 50 state strategy. Rahms revenge was to get Dean fired and no one, ever since, has pursued the 50 state strategy.
Harrison said he would bring the 50 state + strategy back, meaning he would include territories etc. There was no bravado in his talk just good ideas.

(14,971 posts)I could never figure out why we stopped using a strategy that was so effective. I agree about Jaime. Liked his ideas and enthusiasm.

(35,454 posts)the DNC has been such a failure of late. And might I add that those of Rahm's candidates that did get elected were the equivalent of chaos causing teabaggers and lost their future elections.
