It seems to be universally lambasted from all quarters, so I say, "To Hell with them", I love it.

on another note. When I try a new, to me/us, restaurant and if they have meat loaf on the menu I try it cause it will tell me all I need to know about the cooks. Just something I've noticed over the years

I'm a catfish eating fool for sure. We have a couple good catfish farms that most all the local restaurants get their catfish from and I'm here to say that catfish cleaned right, rolled in cornmeal and given a hot oil bath is something to die for. Humm mmm good.

I'm getting hungry

National Rotate Your Doorstop Day where you replace last years fruitcake with this years fruitcake and eat it.

Mom made fruitcake for years that put the commercial ones to shame. I got to help drizzle Scotch whisky over the cheesecloth wrapped fruitcake for the weeks leading up to the holidays. The smell memory of doing it is still strong.

The same Scotch whisky was used the make the sauce for carrot pudding grandma made in old Lipton tea tins.

now I'm thinking of bread pudding. Mom made the best bread pudding I ever ate. I haven't got my wife to try making it yet though. My wife cooks like my mom did, a little of this a bunch of that and a smidgen of something else and it always turns out to be oh so good. Always the same but at the same time always a little different.

I love that girl

Grandma used to sit me down with a sixteen ounce claw hammer and set me loose on a sack of them tough black walnuts in the fall, then the pies would mysteriously appeared during the holidays - Payday!

but I like fruitcake, gingerbread, bread pudding (without sugary sauce), peach (or apricot or plum) cobbler (or crisp) - hold the ice cream, anise cookies, biscotti (especially anise), and a couple of other things. Unfortunately, in the US desserts usually have too much frosting or come with ice cream, basically too much of a good thing.
