(1,132 posts)that he was in Wham, as if that was his claim to fame or something.
In reality, he was much bigger as a solo artist, a late 80s pop icon. "Faith" was an excellent album that sold 25 million copies worldwide.
RIP George. This year can't end fast enough.

(17,045 posts)"Listen without prejudice" was an amazing album. When I think of him WHAM is the LAST thing that comes to mind. He was an accomplished singer in his own right.
He will be missed.

(15,317 posts)Younger people won't remember that part of his career, but Wham was pretty big at the time and it launched his career.

(6,139 posts)2016 keeps on 'giving'. Honestly, at this rate, can't wait for this year to be over already. George Michael is one of my favorite singers ever and is only 53 y.o. I've just been re-listening to his 'Older' album after the election, the music is from the time when the world was sane. The album release coinsided with my coming out and was a soundtrack to my youth. He is irreplaceable. We have so many great female singers but there's been a desert in truly great male singers.

(3,275 posts)I liked his music. He was too young to have died. Every year, a lot of celebrities die but 2016 has been particularly brutal. I should have known when the year started off with the death of Abe Vigoda.

(1,770 posts)My friend lost her husband to a brain tumor last week. Her mother is 88 and questionable, my Dad's 86 and seems okay, but who knows, and we better not lose Carrie Fisher, plus George Michael was 3 months younger than I.
I hate 2016. Bad things happened to me and a lot of other people this year, not to mention all of America.

(4,935 posts)George and I are almost the same age. I've followed his career since the early 80s....I always knew he was gay...maybe some wishful thinking on my part. Amazing talent and stupendous voice!
RIP George.
2016 sucks!
