Trumps 10 biggest allies in Congress

© Provided by The Hill Trump’s 10 biggest allies in Congress

Republican lawmakers and other political heavyweights are scrambling to jump on Donald Trump's bandwagon a month out from Inauguration Day, but the president-elect may wonder how many of them are true friends.

When the House Trump Caucus met on the fourth floor of the Cannon Office Building two weeks ago, some 50 lawmakers attended.
But only a handful of those members were there from the beginning.

"We could have met in a phone booth when we first started. Literally we were laughed at," said Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), a founding member of the Trump Caucus.

Trump, who is known for placing a high value on loyalty, will likely turn to some his early backers to take his agenda to Congress.
Here are 10 of Trump's biggest allies on Capitol Hill:

Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.)

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.)

Reps. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.) and Tom Marino (R-Pa.)

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas)

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)

Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.)

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.)

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)

I just listed the people. The article has more detail.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) Really (R-W.VA.)

Manchin is a Democrat who supported Clinton in the general election, but he is expected to emerge as a pivotal Trump ally in the next Congress.

Manchin says he's already spoken to Trump more times since the election than he has spoken with President Obama over the last eight years.

He was under consideration to serve in Trump's Cabinet but recently announced he plans to stay in the Senate.

"My job as a senator is to do everything I can to help him," the native West Virginian said on "Fox and Friends" this month. "And if I do disagree - respectfully disagree - I'm not calling people names."

Manchin is running for reelection in 2018 in a state that Trump won with a greater percentage of the vote than in any other state.

The article needs more details...googling.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.)

On December 9, 2010, Manchin was the sole Democrat to vote against cloture for the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act, which contained a provision to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

In 2012 Manchin's candidacy was endorsed by the National Rifle Association (NRA), who gave him an "A" rating.

Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.)

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), the first House Republican to endorse Trump...

At 2010 Governor’s State of the State Address to a woman who was looking for a seat: “I’m sure if you offer someone a lap dance, you can find a place to sit.”

Chris Collins voted for the 2013 Government Shutdown. When the time came to reopen the government, he voted to keep it closed.

Responding to criticism of Trump from the parents of a fallen Muslim-American soldier, Collins argued that the Khizr Khan is an attack dog for Hillary Clinton who uses his son "as a shield" from criticism.

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.)

Shortly after endorsing Trump, it came to light that Hunter had put a seemingly endless list of personal expenses on his campaign’s credit card, including over $1,000 in video game purchases, personal travel, tuition to his kids’ school, plastic surgery, etc.

Among other questionable purchases, the San Diego Union-Tribune has reported Hunter used his donors’ cash at a Disneyland gift shop.

In April, The Daily Beast reported Hunter had illegally spent $1,302 raised for his re-election campaign on video games and an additional $1,605 on tuition for his kids’ private, Christian school.

Hunter promised to comply with the FEC and repay the campaign. By April 11, he’d paid his campaign treasury $12,000, according to the Union-Tribune, for not only the video games and tuition but also for a garage door, an oral or facial surgery, and several unspecified expenses, including charges at a surf shop.

Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.)

A former three-term mayor of the lunchpail town of Hazleton, Barletta made national headlines a decade ago when he began cracking down on undocumented immigrants who'd flooded into his town in search of jobs and opportunities.

Barletta blamed the newcomers for an uptick in drugs and crime. He went after employers who hired undocumented workers and landlords who rented to them, successfully pursuing an ordinance that made that both practices illegal.

The law was declared unconstitutional in federal court. In 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a challenge to that lower court's ruling, ultimately letting it stand.

Tom Marino (R-Pa.)

In 2007, Tom Marino resigned as U.S. Attorney in Pennsylvania after a corruption scandal raised questions about his honesty. In 2005, Marino had used his official title as U.S. Attorney to provide a reference to his “close friend,” convicted felon Louis DeNaples, who was trying to win the state gaming commission’s approval to open slot machines at a resort he owned… When the Justice Department launched an investigation into Marino’s actions, he resigned and promptly took a $250,000-a-year job as “DeNaples’ in-house lawyer.” Marino later under-reported his income on his financial disclosure forms, reporting that he only received $25,000 from DeNaples.

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas)

Called for replacing the income tax with a national sales tax.

He is best known as the author of a federal "sunset law" that would require every federal program not specifically written into the Constitution to justify its existence to taxpayers within 12 years or face elimination.[22] He has introduced this bill at the beginning of every Congress.

On October 7, 2005 Brady was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while in South Dakota to accept a distinguished alumni award. He was returning from a reception with his mother, wife, sister, and brother-in-law in the car when he was pulled over for a non-working tail light. He faced a fine of up to $1,000 and a year in jail. He pleaded no contest. Upon his misdemeanor conviction on November 8, he was fined $350, and his right to drive in South Dakota was suspended for 30 days.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)

She voted against the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, openly admitting that she did so because it included protections for LGBT, Native American, and undocumented victims of domestic violence.

She was one of nine co-sponsors of the “Birther Bill” that demand proof of citizenship of all presidential candidates.
In June of 2013, during a roundtable discussion on “Meet the Press” about Republicans trying to pass laws to circumvent the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, Rep. Blackburn claimed that “women don’t want equal pay.”

She ran a campaign ad in 2010 that referred to the Affordable Care Act as “SlaughterCare.”

Voted for the 2013 Government Shutdown, and then voted against re-opening it.

Cramer serves on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, is a former member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and was previously North Dakota’s Public Service Commissioner, a role that involved overseeing the state’s electric utilities.

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has asked one of America's most ardent drilling advocates and climate change skeptics to help him draft his energy policy.

Cramer has said he believes the Earth is cooling, not warming, and he has opposed efforts by the Obama administration to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
