Republican lawmakers and other political heavyweights are scrambling to jump on Donald Trump's bandwagon a month out from Inauguration Day, but the president-elect may wonder how many of them are true friends.

When the House Trump Caucus met on the fourth floor of the Cannon Office Building two weeks ago, some 50 lawmakers attended.
But only a handful of those members were there from the beginning.

"We could have met in a phone booth when we first started. Literally we were laughed at," said Rep. Lou Barletta (R-Pa.), a founding member of the Trump Caucus.

Trump, who is known for placing a high value on loyalty, will likely turn to some his early backers to take his agenda to Congress.

He was under consideration to serve in Trump's Cabinet but recently announced he plans to stay in the Senate.

"My job as a senator is to do everything I can to help him," the native West Virginian said on "Fox and Friends" this month. "And if I do disagree - respectfully disagree - I'm not calling people names."

Manchin is running for reelection in 2018 in a state that Trump won with a greater percentage of the vote than in any other state.

Heather Bresch, whose father is U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., became president of Mylan Pharmaceutical in 2009 and CEO in 2012…under fire for jacking up the rates of life-saving anti-allergy device known as the EpiPen…450 percent price increase in just seven years...

Virginia’s Sierra Club chapter stated that "he’s been nothing but a mouthpiece for the coal industry his whole public life."

Responding to criticism of Trump from the parents of a fallen Muslim-American soldier, Collins argued that the Khizr Khan is an attack dog for Hillary Clinton who uses his son "as a shield" from criticism.

Shortly after endorsing Trump, it came to light that Hunter had put a seemingly endless list of personal expenses on his campaign’s credit card, including over $1,000 in video game purchases, personal travel, tuition to his kids’ school, plastic surgery, etc.

Among other questionable purchases, the San Diego Union-Tribune has reported Hunter used his donors’ cash at a Disneyland gift shop.

In April, The Daily Beast reported Hunter had illegally spent $1,302 raised for his re-election campaign on video games and an additional $1,605 on tuition for his kids’ private, Christian school.

Hunter promised to comply with the FEC and repay the campaign. By April 11, he’d paid his campaign treasury $12,000, according to the Union-Tribune, for not only the video games and tuition but also for a garage door, an oral or facial surgery, and several unspecified expenses, including charges at a surf shop.

A former three-term mayor of the lunchpail town of Hazleton, Barletta made national headlines a decade ago when he began cracking down on undocumented immigrants who'd flooded into his town in search of jobs and opportunities.

Barletta blamed the newcomers for an uptick in drugs and crime. He went after employers who hired undocumented workers and landlords who rented to them, successfully pursuing an ordinance that made that both practices illegal.

The law was declared unconstitutional in federal court. In 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a challenge to that lower court's ruling, ultimately letting it stand.
