If Trump wants a new arms race, we as Democrats need to oppose it.

The world has plenty of nuclear weaponry as it is.

That fact is the responsibility of THIS nation as much as any other nation.

Therefore, no American president is entitled to talk about making "the world come to its senses", as if the current nuclear climate is solely the fault of the rest of the world.

The costs of a new round of nuclear arms building would, if accompanied by MORE tax cuts for the rich, bring us close to bankruptcy as a nation and force massive cuts in the pathetic remnants of our social service network, as well as making it impossible to effectively fund environmental, labor and consumer and anti-discrmination laws(most of which are barely enforced as it is.

If Democrats bow to the temptation to support more nuclear weaponry, for a country that needs no more nukes, in a world that has too many as it is, we will be acquiescing to the effective destruction of all remaining vestiges of the New Deal, Fair Deal, Great Society and Obama legacies. We may win elections after that, but it will be meaningless, because there is nothing we could after all of those programs are gutted that could possibly be distinguishable from anything a Republican president would do.

For the world, for the nation, for our children, for our own dignity as a party, we are obligated to raise our voices and say "No More Nukes!"
