By Elliot Smilowitz - 12/25/16 11:47 AM EST
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday summoned the U.S. ambassador to his country, as he increases attacks on the U.S. for not blocking a critical United Nations resolution.
Netanyahu has summoned Dan Shapiro, the U.S. ambassador to Israel, CNN reported.
Netanyahu has harshly criticized the Obama administration for allowing the U.N. Security Council to vote on a resolution condemning Israeli settlements in occupied territories.
The U.S. had the ability to veto the U.N. Security Council resolution, but abstained from the vote Friday, allowing it to pass. The U.S. has typically blocked similar resolutions in the past.
Israel also summoned the ambassadors from Russia, China, the United Kingdom and France, the other permanent members of the Security Council, according to CBS New York.
The Israeli leader has accused Obama of working covertly to get the censure approved.

(6,409 posts)Trump seems friendly to the more aggressive group of pro-Israel voters in the U.S. and Clinton was more in line with the less aggressive contingent. Maybe top Democrats like Obama feel a little let down by the Jewish voters who might have supported Trump. Or maybe not. Obama is pretty moderate, favors a two state situation, and has never been comfortable with aggressive expansion of settlements.
