Childproof lock added to White House nuclear launch button
http://newsthump.com/2016/12/23/childproof-lock-added-to-white-house-nuclear-launch-button/
International concerns have been heightened in recent days following comments made on social media by the incoming President, and senior members of the US military confirmed theyve moved to reduce tensions by fitting a cap to the red button which requires two arrows to be lined up and squeezed before it will come off.
The move has already been hailed as the greatest contribution to world peace since the SALT II arms reduction treaty in 1979.
An extra layer of security has been added by making the nuclear launch code the same as the President-elects tax code, which he has thus far proven incapable of remembering.
We considered putting a really big lock on the button because he wouldnt be able to use his tiny, tiny hands on it, said four-star general Simon Williams.

OP
Considering our next president has the temper of a 5 year old, it's probably necessary!

Maybe they could set it up to do something else when pressed, instead, like raise the minimum wage

Wow, seems like a lot of trouble just to manufacture a child-proof safety cap for the nuclear button.
Instead, all it really needs to keep Trump from accessing it is a lie detector interface.

(10,909 posts)7. Oh good, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists can set the doomsday clock back several minutes
It's still at 3 minutes to midnight

Apparently annually, late in January, is when they review and perhaps change the clock setting.
To 1 minute to midnight? 30 seconds? ... I worry about it a lot. Less than a month from now we will have at best a sociopath in command and control.
