I have no doubt gas prices are going to up under trump. He put big oil people in the white house. That will raise the cola for seniors. The cola has been zero or almost near zero under obama because its mostly tied to energy prices instead of real world things like food. Gas prices dropped big time under obama. Of course he gets no credit.

(1,307 posts)Every one in the Democratic party is so concerned with everyone but seniors. We have no friends in congress. I get a lousy $900 a month and no raise in years. Obama let that happen.

(1,307 posts)I voted for him twice and gave money in both elections. I am just upset he gave in on this point. Also his presidency saw the Democratic party put on life support. We lost ground in every section of the country. State and federal government control is now in total control of the right.

(16,093 posts)"Under his plan, as early as December 2018, Social Security recipients with a single income exceeding $85,000 would not receive any yearly adjustments to their payouts based on inflation. The rate of inflation for all other recipients, he proposes, would be calculated with a new formula, known as the Chained Consumer Price Index, which would result in a significantly smaller or even nonexistent year-over-year cost of living adjustment."

Actually I think I saw that if the average income over the time a person worked, which for me is about 55 years, of less than $22,00 per year average,, no increase. That would be me.
I hope !!

(7,775 posts)...the Cons are talking about a new COLA formula that would raise increases to 1/3 of what they currently are. That along with the devastating effect of inflation on people who are on fixed income will make those on Social Security far worse off.
