Just saw previews of the Jackie Kennedy biopic and looks good. Has anyone seen it? What did you think?

(6,931 posts)I remember Jackie very well. When she was in the WH I was very very young but I remember being impressed by her the few times I saw her on tv. And I remember the funeral. And I remember how she became an international celebrity afterwards, against her wishes. And so on and so on.
I've seen the previews for this, and I'm not interested. Natalie Portman may be an okay actress but in the preview she completely and utterly lacks the charm and spark that Jackie had.
Let me know if you like it.

In the role of Jackie, I was surprised at how someone as gorgeous as Portman, completely fails to convey the charm, poise and - oddly - the beauty that Jackie had. I may be misjudging it - forming an opinion on the trailer alone, but the people who made the movie selected the segments to put in the trailer.
One observation - I think they spent too much time on getting the wardrobe and Jackie's very whispy voice correct and too little trying to get convey much depth. This made it seem to me more like a caricature than a serious attempt to capture who Jackie was. Portman really bears little resemblance to Jackie - other than that they are both very beautiful brunettes. For some reason, Portman is made to look plainer than I have ever seen her -- maybe to try to make her look more like Jackie. I suspect that they should have concentrated on capturing the classy, sophisticated, beauty. ( ie the young Audrey Hepburn - say My Fair Lady time frame captures that - even without looking like Jackie.)

(6,931 posts)For younger folk who don't remember or didn't live all this, it might be an interesting historic document. It's just not for me.

(31,402 posts)I just can't bring myself to relive that day/weekend when what we are facing is a Trump regime.
It all started with that assassination, IMO.

(4,670 posts)Strong point: It hits you with the gut-stabbing surrealism of paralyzing grief and never, never lets up. I had just turned 19 when it happened, and this brought back the sadness and despair and pain.
Weak point: The imagined conversations between pairs of characters. Yes, without them it would just be a documentary, but I reminded myself throughout not to add them to my brain's factual database about the events.
I thought Portman did a good job for the most part.
