Does anyone else wonder what Trump voters were voting FOR?

The footage of the enraged shopper yelling at retail workers. The racist rants of the woman in line at JC Penney. The angry dude screaming at the other people on the Delta (?) flight. The epithet-filled comments on so many Facebook posts.

It's like the country picked up a big rock on Election Day, and unearthed a metric shit ton of ugly maggots.

It's pretty clear that many of these people feel entitled to something they weren't getting before. Something that they still feel strongly that Twitler is going to get for them despite all evidence to the contrary. What was it, exactly?

A more peaceful planet?
A more secure retirement?
A better job?
A better life for their kids?

No, I haven't listened to a bunch of Trump stump speeches, but other than saying HE'S a great businessman and really smart, did he actually promise anything to his voters other than a wall and locking up Hillary?

(because nothing says stick it to the man like voting for a billionaire real estate developer and reality show host, right?).

Some voted out of the generalized fear of damn near everything that permeates the souls of many conservatives; they thought Trump would be the big strong ruler who would save them from ISIS and uppity women and Mexican rapists.

Some are overtly and proudly racist, xenophobic or misogynistic. They voted for Trump because he is, too.

Some just hated Hillary for reasons they could not articulate, probably as the result of 20+ years of listening to Fox News and right-wing hate radio; they were convinced that she was the worst, most corrupt, generally awful person in the world and Trump took advantage of this belief early and often. No matter what Trump has ever said or done, Hillary was worse. I actually know people who believe this and nothing will change their minds.

They couldn't get their way under Bill Clinton and set out to do everything they could to destroy him, and finished the job this year. While we're fighting about bullshit like immigration and social status, they're looting and pillaging everything they get their greedy fucking hands on and laughing all the way to the bank. Now with Donald Trump as president - Newt Gingrich, as disgusting as he is - was right about one thing. We haven't seen this kind of wealth in the White House before. And now the uber-rich are literally going to control all branches of the government - they have Congress, they have the Senate, they have the SOS, they have the department of education, commerce, treasury, the military, every branch you can think of. They are the real terrorists of this world. They won the election. And expect the looting and pillaging to get worse and worse.

After all, we've had 40+ years now of seeing kids having to struggle much harder than their parents did. My generation got school largely paid for and student jobs were enough to eke out an education with scholarships and grants for the smart kids. The next generation had to start going into debt and now the kids are on the hook for the whole thing and it's crushing them. Kids without educations aren't doing any better, still living at home because McJobs don't pay enough for them to afford rent. When my generation came of age, we at least got our first outrageously shitty apartments, usually with roommates. Kids now can't afford even that. Marriage and kids? Oh, hell, forget that one, who can afford it?

It used to be that if you were male with white skin and turned up for work every day, you could afford more than the basics so you could afford to send your kids to a subsidized state college. Those days are long over and it kills people to see their kids pushed backward from where they started life.

There's a lot of rage out there. Get these people out of their mobs at rallies, most of them really don't hate Muslims or Mexicans or much of anyone else. The rallies have been good at misdirecting their rage and there is a lot of rage out there. It could just as well have been an effigy of some generic corporate chairman of the board, although that would have defeated Twittler's purpose.

Eventually they're going to lose control of a mob, you can't maintain it forever, and the results will be very ugly. There is that much rage out there.

Apparently, a lot of Trump voters aren't happy with the way government is working (or rather, not working), but they are badly confused on who's monkey-wrenching the works. They're in for at least two years of "you ain't seen nothin' yet." But will they learn anything? Magic 8 Ball says, "Reply hazy; ask again later, but don't get your hopes up."

Republicans run against government. Since Reagan said, "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government, I'm here to help'." That has been their motto. Eisenhower, Nixon, hell even Reagan would be horrified to see the level at which the right wing hatred of government has gotten to.

Democrats are mostly about government partnering with private industry and social organizations to form a coalition to provide the most service to the most people. People are the engine and government helps to work the brakes and gas. Republicans rail against government, actively work to mess it up, cry that it is messed up, loot the Commons, then when Democrats get back into office to fix all the mess caused by Republicans, the cycle starts again.

People have been saying "Happy Holidays!" for as long as I remember! Most Christians said it too, out of respect for other religions and non-believers.

I posted this in another thread today, but I think it's accurate about ANGER being the way that many white males deal with their fears and insecurities:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jackson-katz/rush-limbaugh-and-the-mob_b_279696.html

I also shared a story about 9/11 and how I was amazed that my night-shift co-workers didn't seem terribly upset about it... UNTIL they saw Bill O'Reilly go into a rant about it that evening! (The break room TV was tuned to FOX News.) It was one of the more interesting sociological observations in my life. What's ironic is that my previous fury was diminished after I saw them suddenly act more outraged.

If many people are going to remain assholes, I'd rather direct them down a better path.

Seeing a bunch of angry white guys fighting for liberal causes, like the early 20th century union fighters battling the police (or George Patton led soldiers in another benefits-related case!), might scare off other Democrats, though.

They were voting to be allowed to openly hate again, without feeling bad for it.

Apparently, our society is regressing to the place where hating various groups including, but not limited to, women, black, Hispanics, Muslims, Asians, Native Americans, brown people, people who aren't quite white enough, gays, transgender people, disabled people, poor people, union members, teachers, and of course, liberals, is not only OK, it is to be celebrated and held up as the highest form of gold-encrusted classy behavior.

Orange people and rich people are wonderful though. Unless they are dirty liberals (and by this I mean: they act like decent human beings), then they are to be hated and reviled.

Also, Russians are the BEST! Or so I'm told, they're all white too!
