German police are hunting for the driver of a heavy truck that deliberately plowed into a Berlin Christmas market, after voicing doubt that the suspect arrested for Mondays terrorist attack was responsible.
Police in the German capital questioned a suspect arrested near the scene who they believed was the driver of the truck that rammed into crowds on a square in the heart of west Berlin. The individual denied any involvement and the investigation by Germanys federal prosecutor -- who steps in on terror cases or other major crimes targeting state security -- is ongoing, according to Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere.
Its not yet certain whether this is really the driver, city police chief Klaus Kandt told reporters in Berlin, confirming a report that first appeared in the Welt newspaper. Police remain especially watchful and urge the public to do the same, the force said in a Twitter post.
