Uber Driver Stabs Beverly Hills Rider Multiple Times For Disrespecting His CarBIRMINGHAM (CBS DETROIT) Police in a suburban Detroit neighborhood say an Uber driver is under arrest for stabbing a passenger who allegedly disrespected his car.
The incident allegedly began when a couple from Beverly Hills called for an Uber driver after a holiday party.
A tap on the window to let Uber driver Jacob Matthew Allemon know the couple was getting into his car was the beginning of the end according to the police report. Allemon told police he felt the tap on the window was disrespecting his car and drove the husband and wife for about a mile and then told them to get out of his car pulling into a shopping center.
When the couple asked if they could wait in his car for another Uber driver (due to the winter temps) it lead to an exchange and the 49-year-old rider was stabbed multiple times in the face, chest, and back.
The victim was able to disarm Allemon and restrain him until police arrived.
Allemon, 23, of Berkley has been charged with assault.
The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for his wounds and released the next day.

(82,849 posts)I wonder what Mr. Allemon's criminal background check revealed? You know, because Uber's all about passenger safety and they require that everyone who downloads their app undergoes a stringent criminal background check before they start accepting ride requests.
Wait until the victims find out that their only recourse is against the 23-year-old Allemon, because Uber won't be providing insurance coverage for his actions while driving for Uber, and Allemon's insurance company doesn't cover Allemon when he's using his car as a for-hire public conveyance.

(82,849 posts)You know, one that's licensed and regulated by the municipality where it operates, the victim has legal recourse against the cab company and perhaps even against the City that failed to enforce its regulations. Allemon's victims will find themselves in a regulatory limbo where the City, Uber, and Allemon's insurance company all deny financial responsibility for this independent contractor and his unauthorized actions, which weren't carried out in the course and scope of his employment.
Yeah, I suppose pointing this out could be construed as bias, but at least it's grounded in fact and reality. Irrational? Not sure how that works as an argument.

I'm betting he always parks it so it takes up two spaces in parking lots, too. Reminds me of my late brother-in-law, who always did that, despite the rust-outs, dents and peeling paint on the wreck of a car he drove. It wasn't the car. It was him. And disrespect was what he had for everyone but himself.
He even looked a lot like that Uber driver. I wouldn't have gotten into that car in the first place, I think.
