I quoted someone who said roughly this, "History, when it is being made, just seems like one damn thing after another." I am too lazy to dig out the hard copy and the digital version is in Word Perfect 5.1 on a floppy I haven't a drive for, so I can't be sure the quote is accurate or credit the source.

One damn thing after another....

actual peace. The first unity since the Romans, which wasn't really unity, but subjugation. And unstable without a Roman presence.

Borders fell, old enmities were forgotten, a common currency and it looked like the future could have been the United States of Europe.

But, I wondered if it could last, and for how long? As I feared, human nature fucked it up again. And this time we have nukes all over the place.

So, what tiny little brick will fall out of place this time and start the chain reaction?

The only thing that gives me great angst is that in time past the carnage was not final. Today, with nuclear weapons, it will be complete. The evolution of Mankind's reasoning has not kept up with it's path to destruction.

We are entering one of those cycles where we punish ourselves with something we could have and should have prevented.

Given the inexperience, naivete, malignant narcissism, and bold rejection of fact-based reality, I expect some things will start flying apart fairly soon. No telling if they can or will be contained.
