Checkmate.
Letting him testify may have been the best thing for the prosecution. However, maybe they didn't want the jury to see him as a stupid, befuddled OLD man. That may have created unwarranted sympathy.

But every interview I have heard with him has been damning. He comes as close as he can to admitting that he did sodomize those boys, and justifies it by saying he 'loved them' and that 'he did so much good for so many'. He is incredibly creepy sounding.
