(33,207 posts)It's quite possible. I'm glad you brought it up.
It would be defined as those personalities who delight in inflicting suffering on those with positive EQs.
Worthy of study, I suppose. But, in this new world of mean-spirited spite, who would care?
Thanks for the comment.

(146,333 posts)Everyone I know with a high IQ is highly literate, well-read, articulate and able to think logically about things.
Donald Trump is not.
My guess for his IQ is about 115. He's a voluntary non-reader and has a small vocabulary. Perhaps he's somewhat dyslexic, but he shows no outward signs of having an IQ as high as he claims. Most prominent in his public presentation is a lack of reasoning ability and lack of curiosity about things. He seems unwilling or unable to learn, and that's another sign of a lower IQ.
MANative
(4,112 posts)I'd bet that his vocabulary doesn't exceed 12,000 words. Highly literate people often have vocabulary of about 30,000. He often uses words incorrectly or out of context, and makes frequent spelling and syntax errors. I think you're almost certainly right about him being dyslexic, for which he's probably learned no remediation skills.

(16,877 posts)I'd wager he's closer to 100, given his speech patterns and vernacular. For him to suggest that his IQ is 156, is laughable on its face not only given his history, but there's only one IQ scale, that I know of, that scores that high and that score would be four points less than the max of 160. He's no Mensa member.
MineralMan
(146,333 posts)complicated business. That's not really typical of people with IQs around 100. I give him that 15 points, based on his abilities to manage his business endeavors, no matter how poorly he does that.
However, his lack of curiosity and disinclination to educate himself indicates that he's unlikely to have an IQ higher than 115. He's just not a person who seeks out information for its own sake, or even when it might be useful to him. He hires people to do that stuff for him, because it's not really within his capabilities.
Still, raw IQ measurements aren't all that interesting really. What is really troublesome about Donald Trump is his lack of any ethical standards and his unconcern about others. His Empathy Quotient or EQ is very low. That's typical of narcissists and sociopaths. The man has some kind of personality disorder. I think that's obvious.

(99,714 posts)He pulled a 1270 on the SAT. That is equivalent to an I Q in the 120-130 area.
Based on educational achievements Drumpf's I Q might be in the 120 range. We would need to see his grades and if strings were pulled to get him in an Ivy League university.

(2,297 posts)By the way , the smartest guy I know, a world famous Financial guy, got a near perfect SAT. The best part is that he remembered the one question that he thought was poorly worded, hired subject experts and lawyers, and challenged it. They did not give it to him. He loves to tell that story, even at 50+ years, having made billions. If you talk to him (known him since he needed a babysitter), he does not seem like anyone special, other than being extremely arrogant with strangers.

(2,297 posts)So, I can see it. If anything I would guess that Trump is 2E (twice exceptional) where a learning disability is equalized by a high iq, allowing some to "function" in the world. It is an extremely common diagnosis these days. I know 4 kids with it in my child's class.
I got 1470 out of 1600 on the old SAT, an unremarkable score in my high school and at my school (same one as Trump), in my case 800 was on math, so I was not a particularly good writer or speaker. That said, I am comfortably in the genius range according to Mensa. My wife has always disagreed with this assessment by the way.
My kid, again unremarkable, took an SB iq test at 5 years old. 140 did not even qualify him for a second interview in the program that he was applying to.

(7,265 posts)A chart purportedly showing that Donald Trump has an IQ of 156 is based on incomplete and outright inaccurate information.
Origin: A chart purportedly ranking the intelligence quotients of former presidents of the United States made the rounds on social media in December 2016, along with the claim that the President-elect would rank among the smartest, boasting an IQ of 156:
...
This chart is based on a real study; however, the claim that Donald Trump has an IQ of 156 is not.
...
This article is chock-full of logical missteps and factual inaccuracies. Trump's official school transcripts are not available, so it is impossible to know his actual scholastic aptitude scores. While the article's author used Wharton's general admission requirements to estimate Trump's IQ, the math still doesn't quite add up.
According to PrepScholar.com, Wharton's SAT requirements are currently set at 1500. This roughly translates to an IQ score between A145 and 149, not 156. Regardless, Wharton's admission requirements are irrelevant, since Trump did not enter Wharton as a freshman. He transferred there his junior year, and Wharton does not list SAT scores among its requirements for transfer students.
Gwenda Blair claimed in her 2001 biography about Donald Trump and his family that the President-elect was admitted to Wharton thanks to a friendly admissions officer ...

(17,331 posts)I'd never seen this chart before. Poor Ulysses down there at the bottom.
I notice Obama isn't among the ranks. I'd guess he'd fall somewhere within the top third. I took a spin around the inner-webz to see if I could find it but I see some sites reporting that Obama's IQ has never been publicly released. Anyone know otherwise?
Denzil_DC
(7,265 posts)because he hadn't been elected president when the chart was drawn up in 2006.
Aside from disputes about what IQ actually is, let alone whether it can be measured and compared in any meaningful way, most of the IQs recorded in that chart are guesstimates - "historiometric" assessments based on their academic achievements etc.

(2,297 posts)It is no measure of drive or success, but yes it is a measure of intelligence. With an IQ under 100, there are a lot of jobs that you should not do, jobs that involve reading comprehension for example. 125, go to med school. The nice thing about IQ tests is that generally they are impossible to game.
