Boeing has 150,000 U.S. jobs tied to selling planes to China, says Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO R
Boeings aircraft deliveries to China support 150,000 jobs in the U.S., Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO and President Ray Conner said Thursday.
Conner said customers in China are slated to take delivery of 30 percent of all Boeings 737s and about 25 percent of all jets assembled in plants in Washington and South Carolina. Conner made the comments Thursday at a National Committee on U.S.-China Relations event in New York, according to Bloomberg News.
Obviously these deliveries are very significant to the nearly 76,000 Boeing employees who design, assemble and support our commercial airplanes," Conner said. "China is enormously important to our success as a company and as a major U.S. exporter."
Conners comments seem aimed directly at criticism about trade with China from President-elect Donald Trump, who has had harsh words for China, blaming it for taking away U.S. jobs. Trump has vowed to slap trade tariffs on China. If Trump launches a trade war with China, Boeing will likely lose business to rival Airbus.
