A metaphor for the Romney campaign, I'm sure.
"Jim Wilson, whose cross-country travels in a GM pickup festooned with giant Romney for President signs and stickers earned the admiration and enmity of strangers, reported that his truck was badly burned on Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon."

(12,008 posts)isn't the proper way to dispose of such a desecrated flag to fold it in a certain way and then burn it? It looks like he was half way there.

Looks like he was using his truck for commercial purposes, not as a private vehicle,
will his auto insurance carrier notice?

(135,425 posts)...His truck is about to hit the 300,000-mile mark and could use a few repairs. There is an oil leak. Even so, he is gearing up for his longest drive yet, a 38-hour trek from Virginia to California, where Mr. Romney will make an appearance on Memorial Day.

I--no spring chicken, myself-- eschew the tabacky in my dotage, though I do enjoy the odd diet coke and I really like almonds, too, but if I had to live on that kinda food day in/day out I'd be in a rough way. He's a heart attack waiting to happen.
He was probably rolling down the road, smoking that pipe, knocking out the old plug and getting ready to load the bad boy up anew, when a tobacco ember met flammable material...and I'll bet that oil leak didn't help matters either! He probably had a few containers of oil to top off with in the back of that rolling wreck, too.
If his insurance sucks, maybe the RMoney folks will buy him a new truck....or maybe they will be assholes and say "Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, MY FRIEND!"

(14,887 posts)offered him a ride home & motel room for the night. Jeez what would that cost the campaign - maybe $250? They have the 1% spending mega money everywhere but they can't spring for even a 'previously owned' truck as a replacement for rmoney's super fan?
SDjack
(1,448 posts)on fire with Rmoney signs persuaded no one to cross-over and vote for Rmoney. Making Jim "whole" again so he can continue is a foolish waste of hard-stolen money, and would result in numerous other unfortunates begging Rmoney for money. Disappointing them will drive away votes. There you have it, Jim. No help.
