A nightclub and event venue outside Washington, D.C. is receiving threatening phone calls and online comments after the small business chose not to host an inauguration party called the DeploraBall.
DeploraBall organizers say Clarendon Ballroom cancelled the event booking because they caved to pressure from Hillary Clinton supporters. ... But managers of the venue say they never had a contract with the party's organizers, who they say sold more than 500 tickets to their venue without their knowledge. ... "We cannot cancel an event that was never booked. There was never an in-person meeting with organizers, never a hand shake and definitely not signed contracts or deposits," Clarendon Ballroom said in a statement issued Thursday evening.
Some calls and messages Clarendon Ballroom received were so threatening that they called police. Arlington County police are monitoring the situation, spokeswoman Ashley Savage said. The department is not aware of any credible threat. .... Organizer Jack Posobiec said Clarendon Ballroom cancelled the event when word got out of social media that it would occur there. A Washington Post reporter tweeted Monday night that DeploraBall organizers were selling tickets. Clarendon Ballroom responded in a tweet the following morning that no event was contracted for the day.
....
Another DeploraBall organizer, Mike Cernovich, said in a video posted to his Twitter page that he also believes Clarendon Ballroom fell to pressure from people who oppose President-elect Donald Trump. ... "They caved to left-wing harassment," he said in the video. ... Cernovich, a self-described "American nationalist" who The New Yorker called "the meme mastermind of the alt-right," showed in the video what appeared to be a proposal from Clarendon Ballroom. He did not show a signed contract. .... Organizers say the event will go on, at a new, to-be-announced location. Unlike many inauguration parties, ticket costs are low, at $30 each.

Jack Posobiec again, the guy who got thrown out of Comet Ping Pong for videotaping a children's party there.

Clarendon Ballroom Battles Alt-Right Blitz After beating up on Arlingtons Dept. of Parks and Recreation earlier this month, the alt-right faction seeking to hold inauguration rallies and parties in Arlington has focused its attention on the Clarendon Ballroom. The Ballroom, one alt-right leader alleges, turned away their planned DeploraBall due to political pressure. The Ballroom, however, says the organizers never actually signed a contract. Since then, the Ballroom has been receiving hundreds of slanderous, dangerous, vulgar and threatening posts and tweets, along with threatening phone calls. {NBC Washington, Washington Post}

A nightclub in Arlington, Va., says it is receiving harassing phone calls after backing out of hosting an inauguration party celebrating President-elect Donald Trump.
Until this week, Clarendon Ballroom was in talks with organizers of a DeploraBall on the night before inauguration hosted by a group called Citizens for Trump and featuring some of Trumps most prominent and aggressive online boosters. ... Sandra Hoehne of Clarendon Ballroom emphasized that no contract had been signed when the North Arlington nightclub decided not to host the event. Since then, she said, the club has been getting harassed by phone.
Jack Posobiec, one of the organizers, said his group was in final negotiations with the venue until this week, when Clarendon Ballroom abruptly backed off.
They knew from the first email that it was an event to celebrate President Trump, Posobiec said. It was perfectly fine until The Washington Post started calling them out.

Be specific and call it straight
Finally, when writing on extreme groups, be precise and provide evidence to support the characterization.
We should not limit ourselves to letting such groups define themselves, and instead should report their actions, associations, history and positions to reveal their actual beliefs and philosophy, as well as how others see them.

(100,081 posts)And I think it's way past time for Twitter to ban Jack Posobiec. I have flagged tons of his comments for hate speech. Shit, they banned Milo Yiannopolous for less than that.

(7 posts)Milo was just a troll, this guy is famous for posting absolutely fake news!
Did you see the group is now doing it at the National Press Club?
The executive of the club Bill McCarren, should be held to account. My grandson told me he has a twitter account with low followers, so could he be asked there?

(100,081 posts)But these dipshits should not be allowed to be given a platform to spread their hate on inauguration day.

(7 posts)I just asked my grandson and he said Bills twitter handle is: @mccarrennews
And he suggested anyone with a twitter account could reply to any of his posts asking why hes letting them do an event, which would keep the questions and comments public.

(8,090 posts)didn't know the assholes had it in 'em. Same with "Les Deplorables."
I hope like hell no alt-right lunatic storms the joint like the North Carolina loser who stormed Comet Ping Pong.

(4,959 posts)had already sold more tickets than the venue's capacity when they didn't even have a contract.
According to the website, the max capacity for private events seems to be 500.
And what kind of 'organizer' doesn't have a contract in hand before doing something like selling actual tickets? Even the flakiest, most disorganized bride (*raises hand*) knows you better have a signed contract for the reception venue before you send out invitations.
This is just attention-seeking bullshit from attention-seeking bullshitters.

(7 posts)Cernovich did a periscope video stating they're now contracted with the National Press Club. I don't understand why they'd agree to book these people?
