(5,914 posts)Santa Claus will be appearing on the White House lawn tomorrow, if anyone should like to bring their little Americans to meet Jolly Old Saint Nick. And if Santa just happens to look like award-winning film and television star Martin Sheen in a beard (wink), then all we can say is, "Ho Ho Ho!"
Hot apple cider and sugar cookies will be served.

Nice speech encouraging the Electoral College to rise to what appears to be a Constitutional crisis.

Independent analysis of the votes by several organizations after Gore conceded indicated that he did, in fact, win Florida.
The Supreme Court sure as hell did void the election results in Florida.
So the precedent is there for the Supreme Court to get involved.

(20,136 posts)In 1995, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review an appellate courts decision of Marks v. Stinson, a case originally brought before a federal district judge in Pennsylvania in 1993, which was subsequently appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 1994. The Third Circuit partially upheld the federal judges decision to intervene and invalidate a 1993 state senate election due to fraud. Interestingly, the federal district judge ordered the winner be removed from office and the subsequent vacancy be filled by his opponent.
The 1993 state senate contest pitted Republican Bruce Marks against Democrat William G. Stinson. Stinson was named the winner, but was later accused of participating in a scheme with elections officials to commit election fraud. Namely, Stinson was accused of conspiring to cast illegally obtained absentee ballots in his favor.
In February 1994, after Stinson had already taken office, the federal judge ordered he be removed from his State Senate office and that his opponent, Bruce Marks be certified the winner within 72 hours.

(7,290 posts)Gore would have won. However, it didn't, so the Supreme Court didn't void the election results.
There is precedent for the Supreme Court to get involved, but there is no precedent for the Supreme Court to nullify a Presidential election.

(26,366 posts)he actually lost in those 4 counties. So if the Supreme Court had let the state court's decision
to recount those 4 counties stand Gore would apparently still have lost.
However the analysis also showed that if the entire state had been recounted Gore apparently would have been the winner.

(17,493 posts)That's just fine in banana republics but not in a representative democracy or a constitutional republic.
If Obama declared himself to be President for life there would up an uprising that would split this nation right down the middle.
I seriously doubt the military would support Obama if he tried to do that. It would probably take over the government until a solution could be found. I don't want to see the military running this nation either.
The best hope we have is the Electoral College and if that fails the impeachment of Trump when he steps too far out of line.

Those are presidential powers. He should use them. What is the point of having a commander in chief if he does not defend the country?

(1,381 posts)Before or after his Hawaii vacation?
Let's face it, a Friday afternoon press conference, right before he leaves on vacation, is not the time that we are going to get any bombshells.
As a matter of fact, if he had any concerns about the Electoral College, which meets Monday, he wouldn't be going on vacation either.
This time Tuesday it will officially President Elect Trump, and there will be nothing anyone can do about it.
