Judge rejects Washington electors attempt to avoid fine

SEATTLE - A federal judge has rejected an effort by two Democratic presidential electors from Washington state who sought to immediately ensure they won't get fined if they ignore the results of the state's popular vote in a longshot bid to deny Donald Trump the presidency.

As Democratic electors, Bret Chiafalo and Levi Guerra took a voluntary pledge to vote for their party's nominee - Hillary Clinton - if she won Washington.

However, both have said they might vote for a Republican, compromise candidate as part of a larger "Hamilton electors" movement to encourage Republican electors nationwide to also vote for a compromise candidate and block President-elect Trump through the Electoral College.

"I personally believe that the constitutional duty I have overrides any state law or state party duty I have," Chiafalo said after court Wednesday.

It is totally illegitimate to pick a third party. You watch the holy hell raised if somebody who did NOT run in the general election is selected by a handful of electors or by the House. The USSC with Bush would be nothing compared to the outcry.
