We have tried the conservative way. We have tried the moderate way. We have tried the Tea Party way. We have tried the DLC way. And it seems the problems of inequality and injustice have only gotten worse? The country is more divided and in worse shape than it has been in a long time.
Liberals cannot escape blame for the conditions of our economy and other problems that we face today. For political reasons, they subjugated their principles for political expediency. They did not want the other Party to win. They surrendered their belief system. They did not want someone other than Democrats choosing our Supreme Court Justices. It was one excuse after another. There was always something.
It is up to the liberals to change the way the political system is presently working. Much of the corruption and decay within our system can be laid at the doorstep of liberals. Even though they knew a lot of policies were wrong, they silently went along, so they could maintain or regain political power. The country slid further and further right. Their silence was nothing more than appeasement.
Most liberals understand that the power to fix this country is in their ideas and in their hands. They know they must do something. They know but they continue to wait for someone to tell them what must be done. In their hearts, they know who is responsible. Who will take the first step? Who can divorce themselves from their comfortable nests?

(22,143 posts)The problem is that it's almost impossible to get real liberals elected. Without corporate sponsors you can't even get in the race. And once you win you have to do the corporate bidding otherwise you're going to be gone next cycle.
We have to get money out of politics but that too is near impossible.
You are dead on with your points, we just have to figure out how to get around these obstacles. A monumental task to say the least.

(884 posts)Progressives too. They have so radicalized us here, when in other Western countries, we are the Norm in thoughts, beliefs and ideals. Not here. They are extremists. Plain and simple. Though they have painted us into that picture. It's twisted.

(390 posts)But uninformed voters think half-assed president Obama is a real liberal ergo
let's swing back to the right. The liberals are powerless. Like Bill Maher said,
we have a center right party and a crazy far right party. It is going to take
such massive education to even begin to turn things around.

(884 posts)I would never call BO half assed about anything. But he is no liberal or IMO progressive either.

(2,404 posts)There was a time when I was just considered a Democrat. Now, I'm supposed to be some sort of left-wing commie who is fighting to bring Socialism to our country. I didn't know that I was so radical. We have swung to the right since 1980 and have bever stopped. There are times when I think we will never stop. The Religious Right, Corporations, Lobbyists, Corruption everywhere.
After realizing that President Obama was not going to fulfill his campaign promises to the American People, I also realized that I would not live long enough to see this country turn around.

(884 posts)Yep. We got this f'ing cult filth calling us everything but Satan himself. We are probably that also to them. I myself have had it with the SOBs. I don't put up with their bullshit. I jerk right back and harder. I have even been called a terraist before by one of these slimey pigs. Not acceptable. I have 11 years in uniform, I wanted to slap the shit out of that person.

(1,013 posts)It took a very long time for people to wake up. Tons and tons of grief, then another ton or two. JFK; RFK; MLK. Riots in major cities. Tear gas. Locking elbows with complete strangers and walking in the major marches in S.F. Along with a high school diploma came the letter "Greetings and Salutations from your Uncle Sam". You and everyone you know being "investigated by the FBI" for possible "subversive activities". The music kept us going. We kept each other laughing, because all of us were cried out.
As the numbers grow and the sadness increases, as one by one we discover how far off we have gone from sanity and decency- Leaders will step forward. Because we will have grown tired of ourselves enough to change and demand change. "Mutiny from stern to bow". "...deceived me into thinking I had something to protect. Good and bad I define these terms quite clear, no doubt-somehow. Ah but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now." dylan's "My Back Pages"
It will have to be those who have a heart, compassion and seek decency and to be decent.
Change will come from no other place. Occupy could still be a great start, but it will take a long time, and need to become "personal" to every one. Not long ago was told "Just grab on and watch the penduluum swing." Of course there's the idea "Been down so long it looks like up."
Its hard to build a bridge, when everything is turned into a wall. Much needs to be done, and even more needs to be Started. It'll happen, in time???

(884 posts)Yep, and now we have this Fatherland Security bullshit called DHS as well. I say investigated or STALKED with the m'fers. Because they stalk people and harrass people.

(45,851 posts)Don't you realize that it hurts conservatives and moderates ever so important feelings when liberals point out the universal failure of their policies?
That's why no one ever listens to liberals, people who are right all the time shouldn't brag about it, it only makes them look out of touch and sound shrill, shrill, shrill.

(6,002 posts)country to its knees. We can all just say "yes" to slave wages.
When you allow big business to dictate law, count votes, and its enabled via the GOP and DINOs, there's no longer a simple solution.
There has been zero accountability for clearly criminal behavior & looking the other way is not acceptable.
Now hear this: The game is rigged.

(4,854 posts)That said, I agree with the rest.
But America is no less short of living up to the ideals than any other time in my lifetime. We have a lot of shortcomings and a lot of strengths in this big mushy mess we call America. I ain't tradin' her in quite yet.

(322 posts)"It is not the difficulty of the problem which we have; it is the fact that the rich people of this countryand by rich people I mean the super-richwill not allow us to solve the problems, or rather the one little problem that is afflicting this country, because in order to cure all of our woes it is necessary to scale down the big fortunes, that we may scatter the wealth to be shared by all of the people. (5,937 posts)that we celebrate and defend the smallest minority, the individual, ourselves. Blind to color, sex, vocation, education, politics, creeds, ideaology, we should be defenders of even those who we even disagree with. If we elevate our party before principal then we have failed. I don't want to think the liberal cause is reduced to silly name calling, rethugs repukes, compete utter childishness, even if they do it, what have we to defend our claim if we can't even champion the same compassion we claim to have that they do not. Always remember, that in life we interact with individuals first, groups second, and how we treat eachother is what sets us apart from all the rest.
