If there was interference on the play, you don't count the touchdown. Russia meddled in our election, says the CIA. Electors, do your jobs.

(112,521 posts)I was watching one of the Texas high school football playoff games tonight and one team was getting whipped. Near the end of the game one of the receivers on the losing team caught a long pass inside the five yard line and he was in open coverage. The guy did a pirouette before stepping into the end zone to score the touchdown. However, the receiver was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct and since the infraction occurred before the end of the play the game officials took the touchdown off the scoreboard. It was a stupid showoff stunt and his team lost 35-14. I'm certain that that coach will have something to talk about with that player in the locker room or on the three-hour ride home on the bus.

That SILENCE you hear is from people who yell #MAGA but stand down as we learn that a foreign power took control of America's election.

"Social engineering, in the context of information security, refers to psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. A type of confidence trick for the purpose of information gathering, fraud, or system access, it differs from a traditional "con" in that it is often one of many steps in a more complex fraud scheme.
The term "social engineering" as an act of psychological manipulation is also associated with the social sciences, but its usage has caught on among computer and information security professionals."

I'd go as far to call this brainwashing.

(33,222 posts)What I'm trying to convey is the totality of what is happening within the populace goes way beyond the hacking of the Democratic computers. It's a wide mass social attack achieved mainly through the control of media and social networking.
In addition to voter suppression and intimidation.
All of those fake news stories, "like" farms on Facebook, and Twitter in general are destroying our social fabric and the social contract here in the U.S. as well.
If you think brainwashing is what it should be called. Go for it. It's as good of a name as any for this beast.

(297,818 posts)the Russian hacking?
I missed this one. I must've hit a sore spot... Tells me I'm on target.
From your hint Cha, I guess by associating the hack with the Kremlin I've activated a need for a new talking point and that talking point is to associate President Obama and other Democrats with what happened as a means of "muddying the waters".
Be on guard for this new point.
It was suggesting that IF the Russians hacked the DNC then President Obama would have known about it.. and not too subtly.
Pertinent tweet from Charles Pierce..

(12,000 posts)Notre Dame lost the 2013 BCS Championship to Alabama.
Now that Notre dame has had the wins in that season vacated, I have not heard on when that championship game will be replayed. I hear that #3 Florida has asked the NCAA to get the teams back together and re play for the 2012 Championship.

This is reflected in his later fears about the types of people who could potentially become president. He worries that corrupted individuals could, particularly those who are either more directly associated with a foreign state, or individuals who do not have the capacity to run the country. The former is covered by Article II, Section 1, v of the United States Constitution, while the latter is covered by Hamilton in Federalist 68, where he notes that the person who will become president will have to be a person who possesses the faculties necessary to be a president, stating that,
Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States

(28,279 posts)An enormous evil has been done to this country's electoral system. At the very least, immediately register your strong disapproval with your elected officials. That probably won't accomplish much, so start thinking about additional public actions. There ought to be a re-do of the election, with careful tabulation of paper ballots. That's where things stand, at the moment.

(5,535 posts)If Trump stays in power, he's seen as illegitimate. If Hillary is given power, she is seen as illegitimate.
I don't think Russia likes Trump. They just want to turn us against each other. Of course, Russia is playing with a lit piece of dynamite. These actions, though effective, were ultimately stupid.
It's in nobodies interest for the US to go up in flames. In the worst case scenario, nuclear weapons might be launched. In the best case scenario, everybody suffers.
Putin has forgotten that, just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Even if only considering Russian interests, the potential blowback is extreme.
Does anyone want at worst another American civil war, or at best an extremely unstable world? Even Putin wouldn't. He just doesn't believe it can happen. His thinking is foolish and idealistic.
This isn't over. The blowback will be horrifying and intense. It will be an interesting 4 years.
