Memories of a Special Moment in my Youth - A True Story
Could there be anything more calming and soothing to a soul than the utter delight of an 8-year-old boy waking up early one winter morning, all snuggled up tight and cozy inside a deep feather blanket as he gazes through the frosty white glow of a frozen window pane framed by icicle spears hanging down from the eaves.
Four feet of snow have blanketed the earth and I couldn't be more happy and content to be exactly where I am. A brief interlude. A respite from the troubles of life. No rush. No hurry. No school. Nowhere to go. At peace. Time enough to slow down and just be in the "now."
There's a deep, all-powerful stillness in the air as snowflakes drift across the yards and rooftops, burying all and everything in their path. The breathy whistle of the wind outside my window somehow squeezes a path between the panes of the old glass, just enough to tickle my nose with a gentle puff of crisp fresh winter air, waking me, as I smile with the joyful bliss of a young heart in love with life.
Tinkling icicles chime as Old Man Winter does his best to knock down the sparkling crystals from the roof. As I peer through the window pane, all I can see is a deep white blanket of white snow taunting me to come jump into its arms. A deep sense of purity fills my whole being as if washing away the dirt and grime of a tarnished world.
If, only for a while, the universe is bestowing upon its children a brief repose from the struggles of life, granting them audience to the beauteous artistry of Gods handiwork. Time stops for a moment to let us breathe in the awesome wonders of creation and best of all -- to feel grateful for our special place in it.
Enjoy your Holidays everyone.
