how this went for past president-elects. Is it common that the president-elect summon the other Party's notables for such meetings?

I don't remember such meetings between Obama as president-elect and members of the Repug Party.

1. He appointed Jon Huntsman GOP governor of Utah as ambassador to China.

That appointment made sense since Huntsman speaks Mandarin. He also appointed a Republican to be secretary of transportation.

I am sure he had other meetings with Republicans.

It's a pretty common practice.

They hated him that much. Rahm is not a "strong" liberal Dem, especially on education, but as mayor of our 2nd biggest city, there are reasons he would meet with the incoming pres. Gore is just following his heart on the environmental front.

Emanuel “will meet with the president-elect this morning when he is in New York for a series of other meetings,” said Emanuel spokesman Adam Collins. “When they spoke a few weeks ago the president-elect asked for a meeting with the mayor, as he has done with others who have significant experience in the White House and several other big city mayors.”

Earlier this week, Trump meet with Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. Last month, Ari Emanuel, the Hollywood agent who is Emanuel’s brother, met with Trump at his New Jersey golf club with Trump greeting him at the door as the “King of Hollywood.”

Ari Emanuel knows Trump through show business, not politics. He is the co-CEO of the WME-IMG agency in Los Angeles and represented Trump when he was starring on his reality show, “The Apprentice.” WME-IMG purchased the Miss Universe pageant from the Trump Organization when Trump started running for president.
