Kathleen Parker is a conservative columnist. This is from today's Washington Post.
If you thought Donald Trump was the face of Americas anti-establishment movement, hold on to your chapeaus: A wild wind is rising.
Want to know whats more anti-establishment than a president-elect who refuses to play by the rules? How about similarly spirited electors going AWOL and sending someone else to the Oval Office?
Could it happen? Might.
A movement headed by a mostly Democratic group calling itself Hamilton Electors is trying to persuade Republican electors to defect not to cede the election to Hillary Clinton but to join with Democrats in selecting a compromise candidate, such as Mitt Romney or John Kasich. It wouldnt be that hard to do.
Mathematically, only 37 of Trumps 306 electors are needed to bring his number down to 269, one less than the 270 needed to secure the presidency.

Time for Republicans to stand up to Trump.

Electors are scheduled to meet Dec.?19 in their respective states to cast their final ballots. If there are 37 Republicans among them with the courage to perform their moral duty and protect the nation from a talented but dangerous president-elect, a new history of heroism will have to be written.
Please, be brave.

(798 posts)put party above country. I doubt there is enough of them to perform a "moral" duty.

(14,732 posts)Republicans fall in line. Expect the Rethug Electors, with a couple of exceptions to 'fall in line' and authorize the coronation of Trump I.

I agree.

(5,720 posts)This would be good, if they could just cast their ballots anonymously and it would then be too late to replace wayward electors after the counts were done.

(15,046 posts)I'm no fan of hers, but if what she has written about doesn't come to be, she has placed herself near the top of Trump's (s)hit list. And given his thin skinned reactions, and his need to attack anyone who criticizes him, she has put her career on the line. And her life. It's virtually impossible to imagine the hate mail she's currently receiving from crazies who will actually try to do what they threaten to do.
There has been very little on which I've ever agreed with her. But right now, we should all respect her for the courage she has shown by speaking up. And courage it is. Here's my thanks to you, Kathleen. And my hopes for your safety.
