T-Mobile Applauds Gutting of Net Neutrality Under Trump

"While T-Mobile has a justified reputation for being more consumer friendly than AT&T and Verizon, that reputation has consistently fallen short when it comes to supporting net neutrality. While net neutrality has broad, bipartisan consumer support, T-Mobile has consistently opposed the idea, T-Mobile CEO John Legere going so far as to mock the EFF when the group pointed out that T-Mobile's zero rating efforts violated net neutrality and were potentially exploitable."

"Now that Trump's telecom advisors have made it clear that a Trump-lead FCC would gut net neutrality and weaken the FCC, T-Mobile CFO Braxton Carter is applauding the shift away from the FCC as a consumer watchdog.
"It’s hard to imagine, with the way the election turned out, that we’re not going to have an environment, from several aspects, that is not going to be more positive for my industry," Carter told attendees of an investor conference this week.

"I think that it’s very clear that there’s going to be less regulation. And less regulation—regulation often destroys innovation and value creation," he added. Carter said that gutting net neutrality rules could "provide the opportunity for significant innovation and differentiation" and that companies could "do some very interesting things" without the rules in place.

"With Title II [potentially] being overturned, there are a lot of really interesting things that you could potentially do," he added. "But we’ll see what happens. It's going to be a really interesting year next year."

Interesting is one way to put it."
