Guam lawmakers pass 32 bills
A raise rollback measure wasn't the only bill passed by the 33rd Guam Legislature this past session; lawmakers also passed a slew of other bills, including a measure that would create a hybrid Guam Land Use Commission and a bill that would extend hazardous pay to all law enforcement. A total of 32 bills were passed and 16 appointees were confirmed on Dec. 2.
Sen. Frank Aguon is the author of Bill 351-33, which extends hazardous pay to various law enforcement agencies. After the vote, he released a statement expressing gratitude for the passage.
"Our law enforcement officers came across an internal policy and pay issue with the Department of Administration through no fault of either party. We all worked together to resolve it and now we're in the home stretch toward a resolution," Aguon said. "This is the kind of cooperation and partnership that can turn obstacles into opportunities."
Sen. Rory Respicio managed to pass two recycling measures in session. Bills 347-33 and 348-33 make it so that the Recycling Revolving Fund remains a separate account from the general fund and that the Department of Administration report on the current balance and transaction of the fund, respectively.
