Will Hatch protect the filibuster?

I saw this news story that suggests he will. Another reason not mentioned is that it could give him and other somewhat reasonable GOPers cover. Thoughts?

Key Republican Puts Dagger In Push To End Filibusters.....

Asked by The Huffington Post about ending the filibuster, he was blunt.

“Are you kidding?” he said with some vehemence. “I’m one of the biggest advocates for the filibuster. It’s the only way to protect the minority, and we’ve been in the minority a lot more than we’ve been in the majority. It’s just a great, great protection for the minority.”

But, it appears he may be giving it some thought. He and Lindsay Graham I disagree with almost always, but they strike me as a little bit more reasonable and statesman-like than the irrational locksteppers.
Two others who I hope might swing their our way on some key issues are Susan Collins and Lisa Merkowski. Both are prochoice.

agree with you on those points, even though all but Susan Collins invoke some kind of visceral contempt in me.

1. Because, yes it will give cover to other GOP politicians if Trump really screws up.

2. Its only a matter of time before they lose control and if they set the precedent, then they can bet we will follow and run roughshod over them. And they know the demographics are against them in the long term.

Right now, I bet the turtle might be regretting his decision to stall and obstruct. He's set the precedent that a congress can wait on the Supreme Court until the party in power can select the nominee it wants. He's going to go down in the history books as being the guy who created a slow moving constitutional crisis. We'll need an amendment to set a time limit on vacancies. We can all say, nice job dumb ass.
