The Carrier deal is like the Wollman Rink...
the point isn't that the deal was done, it's that Trump will milk it forever.
Here's half of the story:

<...>
Trump learned that the press likes drama and extremes--positive or negative--and was hungry for every morsel about this otherwise insignificant project. Any milestone of the projects progress resulted in press conferences often with ceremony, pomp and circumstance, and frequently, celebrity-filled. When concrete was laid: press conference. Construction complete: press conference. The first ice: press conference. The Grand Opening included Dick Button, Peggy Fleming and Scott Hamilton to name a few. Everything became an event and free promotion. City officials stopped attending press conference because it was actually becoming an embarrassment. The rink which had been a perpetual money loser started making money immediately which Trump donated to charity.
<...>
I was there and remember Trump did indeed fix the rink. The city had it's bureaucratic blunders and minor corruption trying to get it done, and a major problem was that a newly invented system just didn't work. Trump simply installed an upgrade to the old system and took credit for his genius in getting things done. And he took credit for years-- as long as anyone remembered the rink.
In fact, he lost the Plaza Hotel a few steps away, and the rest of Central Park South along with pretty much everything else as he swam in the depths of bankruptcy. It turned out the Wollman Rink was just about the only thing he got right. And he never lets you forget.
He won't let you forget the Amazing! Astounding! Carrier deal either. Makes no difference that it took 7 million in taxpayer money to bribe them to keep less than half the jobs-- he's the Winnah! He told them!
Now he calls Taiwan... Lets see who makes his fucking ties next year. (Filipinos? They work even cheaper.)
