Do you think this morning's VERY optimistic Bloomberg poll passes the smell test?

I dislike polls and pollsters. Like the one from Gallup a couple of weeks ago showing Mitt Ramney with a massive lead among military veterans. It just doesn't pass the smell test.

Well that same skepticism hits me too when the polls show my guy way up as well.

This morning Bloomberg is out showing Obama with a 13 point lead and a 53% approval rating. Obama may well be winning, but that just seems too good to be true.

The poll and writeup: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-20/obama-leads-in-poll-as-voters-view-romney-as-out-of-touch.html

1. I think Obama has long been well ahead, and will win. There's been a lot of push-polling

and the pollsters, the networks, and much of the media (and perhaps the Democratic Party) also have an interest in making it seem like a tighter horse race than it really is.

Romney never led.

This could change if he does something stupid like taking America into war with Syria or Iran, or if the stock market crashed. Short of that, it's no contest.

Every other poll has the race within a few points, most with Obama ahead. The job news has not been good. While I think Obama is ahead I don't think he's ahead by anything like 13-points. Before I get too excited about this poll I'd want to see other national polls showing Obama's lead increasing.

People with only cell phones are, for the most part, not included in polling. This includes younger voters. Obama did very well among younger voters in 2008. We know this demographic has been hit hard by the recession in terms of jobs, etc. but I would still be surprised if they cut for Romney.

this week, so a bump in the polls is certainly expected--but think of this as one data point on a chart that contains a bazillion other data points.

Obama's direction. But I think this was one of those outsider results that occurs frequently in polling. But like I said, it may nonetheless indicate a recent positive trend.

I think the country is still 50/50 on Obama, but I also think they are very, VERY suspicious of Romney.

The media would have a collective orgasm and declare Obama's campaign to be doomed.

A poll comes out showing Obama up 13 points and the media is either downplaying it or ignoring it completely. So much for that "liberal media".
