(58,724 posts)How hard is it to find out what the deadlines are?

(39,313 posts)It's not like it's going to go on long, the deadlines are tight. Too much work for a handful of people.
We need to know as much as possible for future elections. Hillary is on board, so why complain.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)That don't involve giving money to Jill Stein.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)You must be, according to your statement.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)She is taking advantage of a good cause to raise money for her party. A party which was virulently anti-Hillary Clinton.

(1,798 posts)The only way to get this recount is through the Greens.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)I don't like the way Jill Stein is taking advantage of us and insulting Hillary all the while.
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)If you want the recount, the Greens are it this time around. If that's a support-killer for you, then there it is.

(90,708 posts)I tried calling my retiring Congresswoman's local office earlier this week to ask about recounts. Her assistant was very kind but told me that Congress couldn't help, and that it was up to each of the 50 states how to proceed. I audibly choked up but there you have it.
So, oberliner, we are really fucked as voters unless some registered voters in all affected states get motivated to learn this stuff mighty fast (I suggest Google) and apply it before the deadlineS. Because it will take their personal involvement and personal initiative.
I have absolutely no idea what kind of 50-state infrastructure Jill Stein possesses, but I am guessing not enough.
Just watching this play out from California, where we really do try to count all the votes....

(58,724 posts)What does it mean if a candidate might not accept the "results"?
It depends on the "results" to which the candidate is referring. If he or she means the preliminary results announced on election night, they are under no obligation to "accept" those results if the margin in a large enough number of states is close enough that recounts might somehow change the national outcome. Indeed, as noted above, some state's laws might automatically require a recount if the results are sufficiently close.
But if he or she means that they might not accept the final results as certified by each of the states, as voted upon by the Electoral College, and as confirmed by Congress, that would be unprecedented in American history.

(21,573 posts)1. google <insert state's name> secretary of state office phone number
2. Call that number
3. Ask person who answers when recount filing deadline is
should take roughly 2 hours to figure out all 50 states
bigmonkey
(1,798 posts)Not so simple, if you want to make any Monday deadlines that are hanging out there. No downside to asking for local help, except being criticized for doing it.

"Hillary Clinton's campaign said Saturday it will take part in efforts to push for recounts in several key states, joining with Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who has raised millions of dollars to have votes counted again in Wisconsin. "
<snip>
"Stein dismissed Trump's suggestion that the funds wouldn't be spent on the recount.
"For his information, this is all going into a dedicated and segregated account so that it can only be spent on the recount," she told CNN's Pamela Brown on "Newsroom."
"He may be creating his own facts here as he's been known to do some times in the past," Stein added. "He himself said it was rigged election unless he won it."

RE Michigan:

"We will need volunteers to observe the recount in every county in Michigan. Let us know below if you are interested in helping and receiving more information on how you can do so.
Please check your own county, and any other county that you would be willing to drive to (likely for a 9am start time)."
Re: Pennsylvania:
http://www.jill2016.com/recountpa
"In addition to the costs of a recount, we also need to find at least three voters in each election district willing to submit an affidavit to their county board of elections requesting a recount. We will be working with our legal team to develop the affidavit language to send to those willing to do so.
Please tick that option below, if you are able to do so.
Recounts also need volunteers to monitor the recount process itself.

Get the audit of those damned computers looked into.
And FFS!! Feed them the date 11/08/16, just in case the malware is programmed to only kick in on that date.
