Not an unreasonable question given voter suppression in many states, and questions about the counts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and other states.
Some of us never got over the theft, by the Supreme Court, of the 2000 election. (Not to mention the Ohio count in 2004.)
Now, we will spend years with a president that many consider questionably elected.
It seems that every time this happens, it's the Republican Party that turns out "winning."
Free countries around the world are looking at us and questioning our commitment to "democracy with a small d," "freedom," and "fairness." And many of us here are questioning those things too.
But this time around, the Republican Party controls ... well, everything. Many of us are fearful of this. And so are many others in industrialized, sane countries. Especially since our president is someone whose judgement and emotional stability are in question.
This does not make for a safe world.

(21,155 posts)He was installed by Putin's vote hacking. It is so blantant and so outrageous the MSM is not addressing it. And they will pay for it by being silenced during orange hitlers reign of terror.

(90,769 posts)how much it will really matter in the final analysis.
Shrub was shoved down our throats, while pundits and news readers proclaimed the wonderfulness of our democracy and the multiple mentions of the peaceful transfer of power (like such wasn't the case anywhere else in the world and that such a state of grace was unique to the United States).
The same will happen with Trump.
In 2000 it seemed to me that it was more important to the pundit class and many in Washington that everyone come around to the red, white, and blue narrative of America's democracy at work, proving once again how strong our democracy is, and how great a country we are for our peaceful transfers of power - instead of really looking at what happened.
As if America would somehow break under close scrutiny. That our democracy was too superior (or too fragile) to question the legitimacy of an election - as if , somehow, America was above election problems that have occurred in other nations. That we had to move on and get on with the important stuff. Like the legitimacy of an election wasn't important, or that anyone who questioned the results were one breakdown short of an alien abduction anecdote.
This isn't to say people didn't speculate and protests, or that people just got over it, but the official narrative wasn't the least bit altered by any doubts or evidence of impropriety.
So, yeah, Trump will be legitimized when the EC votes 12/19, then given to Biden, the clerk of House, and the Federal Register in early January, and those results are then certified by Congress a few days later.
